The Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) organization capitalizes on Amazon’s scale and speed to build a more resilient and sustainable company. We manage our social and environmental impacts globally, and drive solutions that enable our customers, businesses, and the world to become more sustainable.

The Sustainability Measurement & Abatement Technology team builds technical solutions to track, record, and forecast Amazon's WW impact on the Environment (i.e., Carbon, Water, Waste, etc.). This includes calculating past and current impacts and future abatement plans, ensuring credibility through standards and validations, and highlighting non-obvious opportunities for Amazon’s global business teams.

We are seeking Software Development Engineers to partner with the customers, stakeholders, product managers and Data Scientists. This role will define and execute the product goals. You challenge yourself and others to constantly come up with better solutions.

You're a thought leader, but you don't just know how to solve the problem, you prove it by building the solution, have a high bar for code quality and passion for design and coding best practices.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work on a modern data-driven platform to extract Amazon operational data, perform data transformation and data estimation leveraging ML models.

  • Own and deliver in re-architecting a monolithic application into smaller code packages

  • Lead and document software engineering best practices for other cross-functional team members.

  • Design, experiment and develop with the latest Optical Character Recognition(OCR) and Large Language Model (LLM) technology

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in software development technologies and bring new ideas and approaches to the team

  • Write high-quality, clean, efficient, and well-documented code to create reusable and modular components

  • Provide thorough unit and integration testing, and support products while deployed and used by our stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
