Department Description: Would you like to contribute your own ideas on how to smartly deploy and manage large scale distributed Database-as-a-Service offerings for the public and private clouds? Oracle’s Database development group designs and develops the Database-as-a-Service platform that drives Oracle's Database, Engineered Systems, Oracle Public Cloud, Oracle PaaS and SaaS offerings. This team is a provider of public cloud database and infrastructure management software and helps companies manage platform resources to deliver service, quality and availability, as well as workloads in private and hybrid cloud environments.

The Database Cloud Platform team is responsible for designing, developing and delivering the Oracle Database product on Public Cloud Platforms. These range from initial provisioning of customer’s database and compute environment to complete life-cycle management of the customer’s database instance on the Oracle Public Cloud. The Database on Public Cloud product is growing rapidly and the product features are designed to manage customer environments at a massive scale. This is a global team with locations in US, Mexico and Oracle’s India Development Centre (IDC) Bangalore.

Brief Posting Description:

Work with a world class team to provide support for customer production systems in the Oracle Cloud, with the opportunity to work on the latest Oracle database, Infrastructure cloud releases and features as part of the cloud first strategy. Provide operational support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness. Provide accurate and creative solutions to customer problems to ensure customer success.

Qualifications and experience:

Must be a motivated, team-player with the ability to work cross functionally with a “can-do” and “do-it-right” attitude, a self-starter, and constantly thinking of ways to improve the work.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member. 7 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer supporting Cloud Infrastructure, automating routine Operation tasks using Python,Perl, SDK, Terraform, Ansible etc. and relational databases with a focus in Oracle and related tools. Experience with an organization with a key 24 X 7 production support is preferred. BS or equivalent desired.

Responsibilities:

As part of the Database Public Cloud Platforms team, work includes below but may not be limited to the following:

  • Deploy and support Cloud services in new regions.

  • Alert and diagnostic monitoring including Security alerts related remediations.

  • Participate 24x7 on call support on a weekly rotating schedule, including weekends

  • Work closely with Product Development teams and provide feedback to improve product quality

  • Develop administration automation and monitoring scripts as needed

  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures/documentation

  • Provide escalation support for database and Cloud Infrastructure related issues

  • Share knowledge and mentor junior team members as needed

  • Attend weekly team meetings and participate team building activities

  • Other duties, as assigned

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Must have 7 years of extensive experience as a DevOps Engineer with strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive

  • Willing to work in a 24x7 production mission critical environment, including weekends

  • Knowledge of Oracle database, RAC, ASM, HA and Standby Systems

  • Experience with Terraform ( Infrastructure as code ) to deploy and configure, Compute, Storage, LB, Firewall, Security List etc.

  • Experience with Linux OS patching and upgrades

  • Experience in any Unix shell script, Perl script and Python

  • Knowledge of Oracle SQL/PLSQL, APEX (Oracle application express ), ORDS

  • Experience of SDK, API and Javascript

  • Experience in Python programming and Perl/Shell Scripting

  • Strong troubleshooting skills to investigate errors and performance bottlenecks

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and documentation skills

Work with a world class team to provide enterprise-wide, customer support for production systems and provide DevOps services to application development teams, including Infrastructure design, coding, and production support for Cloud Services with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness. Provide accurate and creative solutions to user problems of moderate nature to ensure user productivity.

As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you are instrumental in researching, evaluating, designing, testing, recommending, and planning implementation of new versions of Oracle database, Cloud tools and technologies. May act as a team lead during implementations and for system operation and maintenance.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. 7 years of experience supporting systems, cloud infrastructure, tools and relational databases, with depth and focus in Oracle and related tools. Experience with an organization with a key 24 X 7 reliance on its database is desirable. BS or equivalent desired

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
