Job summary

AWS Training and Certification’s (T&C) mission is to educate learners on AWS services and best practices, acting as a key part of outreach and marketing strategies for AWS. We serve millions of registered learners across our virtual and in-person trainings and partner with tens of thousands of business partners that engage with our learning systems on a daily basis.

Our latest initiative will build out our organization’s technology vision for managing relationships with our business partners and provide business partners with new capabilities to manage and oversee learning goals for their engineers and tech employees across T&C’s multiple learning platforms. You will join a brand new set of teams dedicated to this initiative, helping build your team, its processes, and its technology vision from the ground up.

Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer for AWS Training and Certification, you will have the opportunity to help shape:

  • A platform for building out microservices to achieve our latest initiative

  • The design and implementation of these new microservices and their architectures

  • A brand new distributed GraphQL API to interact with these services

  • A modern frontend hub built with React and NextJS

  • Testing, scaling, monitoring, CI/CD, and other operational strategies

In addition, you will work with our internal business teams and other development teams to solve business problems relating to learning, commerce, and content management on the and websites.

About the team

We are part of the AWS Training & Certification (T&C) organization. T&C’s mission is to educate learners on AWS services and best practices. Shared Services provides centralized services and functional capabilities for T&C. T&C offers learning platforms such as SkillBuilder ( Our tools and services enable customers to offer, manage, and sell training to individuals and businesses.

AWS T&C - Shared Services team will be supporting the T&C’s long term strategy, which envisions a customer experience where all training modalities—instructor led training, digital learning, video-game based learning, certification prep, exams, etc. are available for purchase by individual and business customers in a central place. This will allow individuals to shop for T&C products in a central cart and for businesses to centrally manage spend and entitlements for T&C products. After first utilizing third-party software and vendors to get to market quickly, Shared Services is now investing in first-party solutions to enable all of the delightful T&C experiences we have in mind for our customers.

  • 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language.


  • 4+ years of professional software development experience

  • 1+ years of experience developing cloud-native applications using AWS or other cloud providers

  • Knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, algorithm design, data structures, problem solving, and complexity analysis.

  • Experience implementing software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including agile development, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
