Harborview Medical Center – Social Work has an outstanding opportunity for a SOCIAL WORKER - OB COORDINATOR to join the OBGYN Clinic .

WORK SCHEDULE • 40 hours per week • Day Shift

This position is expected to last one year. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS • Increase outreach to and engagement of underserved pregnant women residing in shelters and/or working with HMC vicinity/neighborhood community agencies • Implement processes that improve patient access and connection to HMC’s OB/GYN Clinic’s multi-disciplinary team as well as UW Medicine-wide care • Expand the multi-disciplinary team’s knowledge of and patient referral to community resources addressing social determinants of health

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The HMC OB/GYN Clinic provides full spectrum team based obstetric and gynecologic care to women within HMC’s mission population in Seattle/King County, and for women from the WWAMI region with severe acute obstetric or gynecologic trauma. The Social Worker/OB Coordinator will be part of teams in both the OB/GYN Clinic and the HMC Social Work Department. The Social Worker/OB Coordinator will work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed and harm reduction perspective as well as practice cultural humility and use an anti-racism lens.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide education to patients and families regarding benefits, preventative care and expected procedures during maternity care (10 months) and postpartum care (one year) • Coordinate needed medical and supportive services consultations during prenatal and postpartum care at HMC’s OB/GYN Clinic. • Increase patient and team’s knowledge of and patient referral to transportation options to HMC’s OB/GYN Clinic, as well as Seattle Children’s Hospital and UW Medical Center - Montlake. This may include grant-specific funding when transportation barriers exist. • Develop improved connections with WIC (Women Infants Children) offices staff, including mobile WIC, and maximize patient access to these financial and nutritional services. • Expand knowledge of doula resources and perinatal education services that exist in our community. Facilitate referral to doulas and perinatal education for patients interested in this benefit. • Liaison between HMC OB/GYN Clinic and UWMC Montlake to improve patient connection to Labor and Delivery Unit (L&D). This includes a focus on facilitating culturally appropriate guided tours of UW Montlake L&D and educating patients and families about the admission process. • Standardize patient access to the following services in the postpartum period: birth control, primary care, and community resources for parents.

REQUIREMENTS: A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND One year of full-time social work experience in a health care setting or equivalent. Experience can include a practicum placement as part of a social work training program and/or employment experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS: Within 90 days of hire must hold one of the following credentials issued by the state of Washington: • Agency Affiliated Counselor • Licensed Social Work Associate -Advanced • Licensed Social Work Associate - Independent Clinical • Licensed Advance Social Worker • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
