At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth. As the Fuel Cell Modeling and Simulation Engineer, you will develop models and simulations of fuel cell stack and balance of plant components for real-time and non-real-time platforms. You will own and develop models and simulations which will be used to accelerate development activities, conduct detailed analyses, and explore trade spaces. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Responsibilities Develop and validate fuel cell and balance of plant models for simulating generator processes using Matlab and Simscape/Simulink Support the development of low and high-fidelity plant models, perform analysis, and design efficient logic algorithms and state machines to manage and control various mechanical & electrical actuators. Conduct performance evaluations including Monte Carlo analysis Develop and optimize component libraries to refine performance or add new features Integrate models into closed-loop simulations with controls software Integrate and test software solutions during real-time software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the loop (HIL) testing Support certification activities related to DO-178/DO-254 Deliver simulations to customers to advise decisions and ensure requirements are met Interact with design engineers across many subject areas to assist with and ensure validation of models Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical subject areas 5+ years of software development and debugging skills, particularly in C/C++, MATLAB, and Simulink Experience auto coding Simulink to C++ Strong model development and debugging skills, particularly in C/C++, MATLAB, and Simscape/Simulink Sound fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and first principles physics-based mathematical models Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while regularly providing imaginative and detailed technical solutions to complex problems Ability to effectively use oral and written communication to express technical concepts to technical peers across a variety of engineering domains Desired: Knowledge of dynamic modeling, specifically of thermal, fluid, and thermodynamic systems Experience anchoring first-principles models to higher-fidelity simulations or test data Experience developing real time models for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing Experience modeling and analyzing control solutions with I/O transducers: displacement, rate, and acceleration sensors; pressure and temperature sensors; servo and solenoid actuators; etc. Experience with configuration management Experience with validation of aerospace simulations and models Hands-on e
