JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:Seattle Shipyard Shipwright Employees are responsible for marine carpentry related to the construction and repair vessels.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* Responsible to oversee crews performing carpentry work related to the construction and repair of vessels* Maintain alignment of vessel during construction or repair* Builds keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring for supporting ships in drydocks* Positions and secures blocking and other structures on dock platform, according to ship's blueprints* Build systems staging and wood platforms for other crafts* Fabricates and install wood framing* Knowledge and proficient use of hand and power tools.* May be required to travel to jobsites away from Shipyard and utilize company vehicle.* Able to read and comprehend blue-prints or plan sheets* Able to generate Job Safety Analysis, and give direction to crew members* Able to coach and train other employees on the job tasks* Able to inspect and verify quality of work* Able to coordinate work with other crafts* Assist / Stand in for Shop Foreman with administrative duties* Timekeeping of crew members* Delegation of work* Scheduling of work* Ordering parts and equipment* Assist with project estimations* Assist to write CFR's* Maintain organization and housekeeping in work area and shop* Maintain tools and equipment* Enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.* Transverse gangways, scaffolding and ladders at varying heights* Adhere to all company safety, environmental, quality assurance and security programs* Adhere to company policies* Other duties as assignedMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:This position generally requires 5-7 years' experience, preferably within the maritime industry. A degree from a maritime shipbuilding program or Apprenticeship. Davit training for use on wing walls of drydocks is required. Must be a union member in good standing, or join union upon hiring in. A physical and pre-employment drug testing are also pre-requisite of employment. Fork-lift and skiff certification required.Working ConditionsWork is performed in a Shipyard and there may be extreme temperatures and conditions. At time you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation. There will be heavy lifting and climbing to work in high places and confined spaces. The work can often be dirty and difficult. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends. Travel may also be required. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.Physical/Mental DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and frequently lift up to 25 pounds. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends.
