Google Senior Staff Software Engineer, Kubernetes in Seattle, Washington

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.

  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

  • Experience as a contributor to Kubernetes or other open source projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • 10 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, and/or experience with compute technologies, storage, and/or hardware architecture.

  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

  • 4 years of experience with Machine Learning Infrastructure (e.g., GPU, cloud TPU), or deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX), algorithms and tools (e.g., Kubeflow, Ray.io, MLflow).

  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional and/or cross-business projects

Kubernetes is a portable, extensible open-source platform for managing containerized workloads and services, that facilitates both declarative configuration and automation. It has a large, rapidly growing ecosystem. Kubernetes services, support and tools are widely available. Kubernetes builds upon experience that Google has with running production workloads at scale, combined with ideas and practices from the community.

Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) is a hosted version of Kubernetes running on Google Cloud Platform providing extra layer of automation and zero development operations to allow for frictionless use.

In this role, you will be a visionary, execution-focused technical leader to help shape the future of cloud computing and to help us expand our effort. You will be building cutting-edge cloud technology that is already powering a number of the companies and customers of Google Cloud worldwide.

  • Set team vision, technical direction, architectural approach, and execution, and be accountable for success of complex projects.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and partners in multiple areas of the Google Cloud organization.

  • Collaborate with other technical leaders working on shaping Kubernetes product within Google and within the open source community worldwide. Contribute to product and project strategy, roadmap definition, and requirements gathering.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team and develop collaborative relationships with key technical partner teams.
