Universal Cells (UCI) is announcing a Senior Scientist, Core Technologies opportunity at our facility in Seattle, WA.

Purpose and Scope:

We are seeking a highly capable, self-motivated Senior Scientist for our Core Technologies Department. This individual will contribute to the further molecular engineering for our gene edited Universal Donor Cells. They will work as a key member on a fast-paced team to develop gene editing protocols as well as molecular and cellular assays to characterize our proprietary Universal Donor Cells

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Routinely performs and oversees aseptic cell culture of pluripotent stems cells for general maintenance or experiment execution.

  • Works cross functionally while performing and overseeing experiments involving various gene editing techniques, optimizing processes as needed.

  • Performs and oversees characterization of gene edited cells using in silico, molecular, and cell based assay techniques.

  • Remain at the forefront of scientific literature on program relevant PSC research and shows willingness to incorporate new techniques, equipment, software into workflows.

  • Maintains accurate records and oversees other team members recording and reviewing experimental data in a timely manner.

  • Documents qualified activities according to Universal Cells Quality Assurance guidelines and contributes to quality system through document and experiment review.

  • Able to summarize and present data in both oral and written formats as well as communicate impacts to relevant project timelines.

  • Serves as a team lead with possibility for managing Research Associates and participates in the development of project timelines, deliverables, and priorities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.

Qualifications Required:

  • BS Degree with 12+ years, MS Degree with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience including aseptic technique and pluripotent stem cell culture.

  • Experience performing gene editing in mammalian cells using various methods including MAD7.

  • Strong organizational, time management skills, and the ability to maintain and oversee accurate and up-to-date records for multiple projects.

  • Ability to work effectively both cross functionally and externally with multiple programmatic stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong work ethic with a passion to learn and work in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment.

  • Ability to work occasional days on weekends and holidays as required.

Preferred:

  • Experience with GMP or GMP convertible cell and/or gene therapy work.

  • Experience with writing, reviewing, and revising SOPs and experimental reports.

  • Familiarity with cell and gene therapy regulatory landscape.
