Oracle Senior Principal Software Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Principal Software Engineer and thought leader to join our growing team focused on rationalizing data management and analytics in OCI's hardware and data center space. We are rapidly expanding our existing big data and analytics platform to cover many more internal customers and use cases, growing scale, stream processing and machine learning. This role requires great technical depth and breadth combined with the exceptional soft skills and business acumen needed to listen closely to our customer's needs, evangelize our platform across multiple organizations, and help align technical implementation with product and business managers. You'll be as comfortable working with technical architects and leads on complex implementation issues as you are working with senior executives driving change within their organizations. Our platform handles huge data volumes from extensive data center telemetry and a wide breadth of control plane data from multiple operational data stores, all built using OCI services and industry standard open source tools. As a Senior Principal Software Engineer on the DCAA team, you will get to work with cloud services at scale and drive large, strategic initiatives. We are looking for a highly experienced engineer who is creative, passionate about building simple solutions for complex problems, and excited to work at scale to solve our most difficult customer challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and evolution of our Data and Analytics Platform.

  • Drive end to end design, implementation and delivery of complex cross-organizational initiatives.

  • Understand, leverage and apply engineering best practices effectively.

  • Lead by example and improve our implementation and operational standards and best practices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, leads and architects, program and product managers, and technical and business leaders.

  • Deliver quality features on-time and on-budget.

  • Contribute innovative & new ideas to the product/program Roadmap.

  • Mentor junior and senior resources.

  • Identify and resolve complex data quality issues, drive cross-organizational solutions.

  • Evangelize platform capabilities and solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software development.

  • Exceptional leadership, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to take a project from ambiguous statements of need through actual launch of the project. As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

  • Proven ability to work across the organization to align multiple stakeholders.

  • Proven high level of expertise in one or more of distributed systems, data and/or stream processing pipelines, analytics and/or machine learning.

  • Proven high level of expertise in one or more of Python, Scala, R, Java and/or SQL.

  • Deep proficiency in engineering best practices for the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Experience with cloud computing fundamentals and building applications using cloud managed services.

Additional Qualifications (not required, but each is a plus)

  • Knowledge of and experience with data center design and operations at scale.

  • Experience in querying and manipulating data for analysis — EDA, statistics, and visualizations.

  • Experience with data modeling, machine learning algorithms, optimization, and data science techniques e.g. decision trees, SVM, neural networks, time series, forecasting, classification, regression, clustering, cross-validation, and model evaluation.

  • Experience building and operating distributed cloud services, data pipelines and/or stream processing.

  • Experience evaluating and correcting data quality and completeness issues, drive consensus on attribute definitions, master data management and process re-engineering.

  • Proven ability to align stakeholders across the enterprise.

US: Hiring Range: from $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
