This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will share ownership of the design, development, and verification of New Shepard's launch vehicle and ground networks. Growing your familiarity with commercial networking equipment and standards and your proficiency in system level network integration, you will lead the design, verification, and integration of networks critical for human space flight. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities Work closely with fellow Network Engineers to develop one-of-a-kind space launch vehicle flight network using Ethernet/IP packet-based technology Independently validate all the flight network specifications and requirements provided by the network architect, avionics hardware and software engineers Independently verify all the flight network systems in our Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) Laboratory and our launch sites against the network functional and performance requirements, such as network latency, jitter, packet loss, etc Perform trade study to develop or procure cost-effective network verification/test infrastructure, such as data capturing and analysis tools, network traffic simulators, performance measurement tools, etc. Hands-on tasks for the deployment of flight network equipment in test bench, HIL and launch sites Research, deploy, and maintain network performance visualization technology, and perform periodic network performance analysis and present to various pathfinding collaborators Configure and maintain control of all flight networks equipment settings Own the flight network commissioning activities and keep the flight network flight-ready via scheduled checkout and maintenance actions Collaborate with Blue Origin IT personnel to secure all flight networks traffic using a diverse suite of security tools We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, networking or equivalent work experience 9+ years of design or advanced network operations and integrations as a practicing network engineer (not IT administrator) In-depth understanding of network Layer 2/3 protocols and applications, such as unicast, Precision Timing Protocol (PTP), VLAN tagging, network traffic QoS, OSPF, etc. Ability to understand and develop various software scripting languages Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team of highly skilled software engineers Travel as needed to support launch operations, maintenance, or new network deployments Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience with multicast, including the ability to solve PIM, IGMP and
