Senior Mechanical Engineering Technical Lead sought by Synapse Product Development, Inc. (“Synapse”). The place of employment is 1511 6th Ave, Suite 400, Seattle, WA 98101. Full-time, permanent, immediately available job opportunity. International travel amounts to approximately 8% & domestic travel to less than 5% per year to clients’ sites, as needed. This is not a remote working position. The position is focused on mechanical and systems engineering, developing solutions to solve our customers’ product development needs. The position has no subordinate, direct reports. It encompasses the following duties and responsibilities: Customer Interaction: - Collaborate with clients to understand their product vision and requirements, acting as a technical leader and product development expert - Develop robust and creative solutions to solve customer needs across our varying clients’ industries and guide them through appropriate development processes while interpreting and anticipating client requirements effectivelyMechanical Engineering and Team Focus: - Work on cross-discipline programs of complex products and systems- Work with mechanical engineering team to develop robust physical designs from early concept development through production readiness stages- Proactively work with electrical and software technical leads to collaboratively develop interfaces and coordinate detailed design progression - Arrange and conduct discipline-specific and multi-disciplinary design reviews - Spearhead mechanical architecture development - Develop, prioritize, and assign low-level mechanical engineering tasks in response to project needs - Rapidly decipher requirements and identify and prioritize conflicting requirements and constraints- Identify mechanical project issues and implement course corrections - Identify mechanical project risks and implement mitigation efforts- Provide guidance on design and development tradeoffs - Guide team to execute project according to best practices Leadership – Communication of: - Major mechanical project risks and issues to program manager and systems engineer - Project resource requirements to department leadership team- Team achievements to supervisors- Opportunities for development of the team Synapse Project Management: - Translate customer needs into product requirements and engineering specifications - Guide project mechanical engineering team to meet scheduled milestones and deliverables - Collaborate on estimates of effort for both high level and detailed project bids - Identify and define project assumptions and dependencies - Anticipate and/or identify changes in project scope - Capture and communicate team concerns regarding project health to project managers and program leads.Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field (or the foreign equivalent thereof), and three years of post-baccalaureate experience in: (a) mechanical systems and product design (concept to production); (b) component design using 3D CAD/MCAD (SolidWorks and Creo) for a range of processes, including various forms of 3D printing, machining, and injection molding; (c) electronics integration; (d) materials selection; (e) balancing engineering and user experience influences; (f) cross-discipline product architecture and detailed design development; (g) engineering technical leadership (e.g. design review facilitation, task management, risk and issue management, tradeoff management); (h) integration with project management.Applicants should send resumes to the employer, not the local state employment service office.
