The Senior Manager, Social Impact is a senior-level leader in the Corporate Affairs team, and will partner with stakeholders throughout Nordstrom to skillfully develop strategy and plans that will contribute to the achievement of our brand promise, business goals, drive value and deliver on our Nordstrom 2025 Social Impact and Employee Engagement commitments. The ideal candidate has a unique blend of stakeholder management, strategic program design, project management, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of different nonprofit classifications and filings. They take ownership and move with speed to deliver value to our customers including internal stakeholders, grantees and community-based organizations. Additionally, they bring our investments and key partnerships to life for our customers, creating innovative ways of creating impact across the communities we serve. This individual is motivated, results-oriented and committed to providing outstanding customer service every day. This individual is data driven, collaborative, and finds value in working in a cross functional and matrixed environment.

This role is based in Seattle and expectation is that this individual will work 3x/week from our downtown office

  • Social Impact Professional – has excellent multi-faceted skills rooted in corporate or institutional philanthropy, cause marketing, grantmaking and community service.

  • Employee Engagement – has proven ability to guide and advise on company-wide programs and activations, to achieve our 2025 goals, for community service and philanthropy through innovative approaches to education, giving and volunteerism.

  • Thought Leadership – seen as the corporate giving and social impact expert, provides an informed opinion and is seen as a trusted advisor. Can inspire others with innovative actionable approaches and knows how to replicate success.

  • Consult Leaders – can engage and influence senior levels of leadership and has the courage to provide direct and actionable social impact counseling to executives.

  • Change Management – demonstrates flexibility in the everchanging retail environment with the ability to clearly communicate and bring other business leaders along through cross-functional change and transformations.

  • Drives Impact – ability to interpret business vision and translate that vision through storytelling and strategy to empower employees, customers, and community to take action towards Social Impact + Philanthropy goals.

  • Impact Measurement – has skills and the ability to identify intended impact of investments and track progress overtime through quantitative and qualitative measurement.

  • Manages Complexity – can understand complex ideas or problems, works to identify the root cause and can synthesize and formulate an understandable and executable communications solution.

  • Operates at Multiple Levels – can operate at a strategic big picture level and has the curiosity to understand, coach and manage the fine details. Can seamlessly work with a variety of teams on a single project to bring together complex programs and projects.

  • Develops and manages direct reports and expects excellence - understands individual skills, contributions and areas of development. Provides direct feedback, coaching, inspiration and motivation to engage and retain talent.

A day in the life...

  • Drives, implements and oversees programs, plans and measurable goals to support current and future Nordstrom social impact efforts with specific focus on corporate philanthropy and employee giving.

  • Manage a direct report to lead employee engagement programming and strategic campaigns.

  • Manages initiatives, reports results, and makes recommendations based on risk mitigation, brand building, media opportunities, opportunities to drive sales, generate impact and other factors.

  • Leads engagement with business leaders and subject matter experts on specific projects relating to social impact to coordinate strategies, plans and follow through on tactical efforts. Builds and supporting connections across teams to create buy-in and drive programs and projects.

  • Advises and guides efforts by other teams to incorporate corporate giving and employee volunteering into projects and planning. Educates other teams on corporate giving topics.

  • Responds to business leaders, customer and stakeholder inquiries about corporate giving and social impact efforts.

  • Oversees all company corporate giving partnerships, information and data and acts as resource for team and company leaders; takes complex information and develops clear stories and outcomes.

  • Monitors best practices around corporate giving and employee volunteerism and brings suggestions and action plans to the table. Proactively finds opportunities to increase knowledge of social impact topics.

  • Drives value for Nordstrom through relationships and opportunities identified through increased external partners and events.

  • Provides support to Executive briefings and governance needs for JWN board of directors re: Social Impact goals and priorities

  • Manage program budgets for JWN, expense journals and forecasting, ensuring accuracy and compliance

You own this if you have...

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience; experience in corporate philanthropy, nonprofit management, social impact management consulting, or similar field preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate successful program delivery with emphasis on partnerships that support diverse communities and programs that enhance employee engagement.

  • Strong business acumen with exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Adept at prioritizing and planning multi-stakeholder initiatives, providing direction when needed and removing obstacles to get work done.

  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate at all organizational levels.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead, facilitate, and present to large groups.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint required.

  • Proficient in Employee Engagement platforms preferred

Pay Range Details

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

Washington: $110,000 - $210,000 annually

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
