UW MEDICINE IT SERVICES has an outstanding job opportunity for a SENIOR EPIC DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR position.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE – 40 hours per week

  • Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 – 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday

  • Required participation in team on call schedule POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Work with a small team of experts in Epic systems to build, configure, deploy, implement, operate, support, and maintain the database of the highly complex, fast-growing Epic environment.

  • Perform the role of technical lead on project teams.

  • Guide production, development, testing, and training environments.

  • Administer enterprise databases at UW Medicine, including operational, technical, and administrative responsibilities.

  • Implement data models and database designs.

  • Provide data access and security activities.

  • Resolve database performance issues.

  • Manage database capacity needs, replication, and other distributed data issues.

  • Provide advice, consultation, and support to partners, Systems Managers, Senior Computing Specialists, and operations personnel of varying levels of expertise.

  • Train and mentor other team members. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You plan and complete complex programming and database maintenance activities.

  • You work with staff to ensure that production systems operate accurately, reliably, and efficiently.

  • On a daily basis, you review system and log files to ensure system status and availability.

  • You develop, deploy, and maintain systems production support disciplines that ensure the integrity, availability, and reliability of information systems.

  • You perform the role of technical lead on projects.

  • You lead small to intermediate scale group projects and prioritize tasks.

  • You plan, develop, and present new process improvements.

  • You document complex systems.

  • You work with partnering teams and business units to provide advanced database and system design support, providing expert advice and consultation to partners and management regarding development of database technologies and interfaces.

  • You develop content for, and deliver, informal cross-training across the team. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Information Systems, Math, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.

  • 6+ years’ recent IT experience must include the following:

  • 6+ years of programming experience with Cache.

  • 6+ years of primary database administration experience on large scale database systems providing critical business functions, preferably with Cache, and including:• Complexities of installation of a database on large-scale hardware and storage platforms.• Familiarity with basic UNIX/Linux systems administration.• Experience administering databases in a highly available environment.• Experience with effective database backup and recovery technologies.• Experience with database replication technologies.

  • 6+ years of experience administering Cache/IRIS databases.

  • 6+ years of progressively responsible systems administration, analysis, and programming experience on a broad range of platforms.

  • 4+ years of relational database systems administration and programming experience in a distributed networked client/server environment.

  • Proven record of successful system administration and application support in a complex, multi-platform environment.

  • Extensive experience in relational database systems and other technologies.

  • Extensive experience working with teams in the development and support of applications. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.

  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.

  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.

  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.

  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
