Role Description We are Basepaws, a pet genetics company that was recently acquired by Zoetis. We empower pet parents and healthcare teams to deliver personalized pet care like never before. Our cat DNA test is the market's first consumer test for felines. We work very closely with researchers, universities, and veterinarians to continue driving innovation in precision care for pets. The Basepaws team focuses on the use of high throughput sequencing approaches, computational biology, systems biology, and machine learning to identify novel genetic variants and microbiome characteristics that may influence a pet's health. Our products span genetics, microbiome, nutrition, and therapeutic applications. Basepaws is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Technology team. This is a US-based role only. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for our system's infrastructure as well as the deployment and health of our product codebase. This position will work with software engineers, the product team, and, on occasion, other members of the Basepaws organization. A collaborative work ethic and easy-going nature are a must. Extensive experience in similar roles as part of a startup or small company is a plus. Objectives Help create the long-term technical DevOps strategy. Design, architect, and implement an enterprise-level infrastructure. Design and implement automation, testing, and tooling. Work on ways to improve development and release processes. Ensure that systems are safe and secure against a variety of threats. Implement monitoring, metric, and analytic systems using common tools like ELK, Grafana, Splunk, etc. Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Github Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, etc. Manage cloud resources using Infrastructure as Code tools (i.e. Terraform) Responsibilities Fully document the infrastructure, architecture, and processes Work with the team to build a solid, well-documented infrastructure with a focus on scalability, long-term goals, and flexibility. Ensure the reliability, uptime, security, and performance of the infrastructure. Manage system dependencies, including security, versioning, and compatibility. Build tools to reduce the occurrence of errors and improve customer experience. Provide support to the engineering team on infrastructure issues. Perform root cause analysis of production errors and resolve technical issues. Knowledge and Skills 6+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer 5+ years of experience with designing, developing, testing, and maintaining enterprise infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, cloud architectures, and dashboards. 4+ years of experience with AWS 2+ years of experience with Linux administration 2+ years in an agile environment Experience with cloud networking (preferably AWS) Experience with Terraform or other IaC tools. Excellent collaborative and communication skills Independent and able to take ownership of features/projects. Bonus Capabilities Experience working in a direct-to-consumer company. Experience in a start-up or other small team environments Ability to work through a complex existing infrastructure and drive improvements. The following base pay range reflects the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in (Colorado). Base pay may vary based on location and other factors.
