UW Medicine’s IT Services department has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Desktop Engineering Administrator !
In collaboration with UW Medicine IT Services (‘ITS’) and under the general guidance of the Platform Services Manager, the primary focus of the Senior Desktop Engineering Administrator (‘Admin’) position is providing technical expertise in: • Administering centralized tools and technologies resulting in innovative computing solutions used by internal and external technical teams; and • Ensuring the efficient delivery of information technology supporting clinical, financial, research, and administrative workflow.
RESPONSIBILITIES Operations and Technical Support (45%) • Manage, develop, deploy, and support virtual/physical desktops and applications. • Enterprise level security patching of all systems supported by the Desktop Engineering Team. Tests all patches to validate that application functionality is not impacted before pushing to the Enterprise. • Troubleshooting and remediation of issues with System Center Configuration Manager, Sophos End Point Security, and Active Directory. • Perform various system administration duties (i.e. vulnerability analysis, firewall management, and group policy management). • Customize/configure, manage, and utilize enterprise level central management tools such as SCCM.
Projects (25%) • Perform the role of technical lead on projects. • Lead small to intermediate scale group projects and prioritize tasks. • Actively participate in proof of concepts (POC) execution. • Establish technical and customer relationships. • Provide technical expertise and in meetings pertaining to project intake, project scoping, facilities planning and environment of care.
Process Improvement (15%) • Participate in departmental Continuous Quality Improvement projects. • Plan, develop, and present new process improvements. • Analyze KPIs, operational data, and trending. • Help analyze current and proposed business practices and workflows to identify testing and training needs associated with a system change. • Participate in research, planning, evaluation and implementation of UW Medicine technical strategies.
Training and Mentoring (5%) • Mentoring and consulting services for internal and external technical teams. • Develop content for, and deliver, informal cross-training across the team. • Identify and take-on mentorship opportunities across the team. • Lead technical cross-team groups.
Documentation (5%) • Technical documentation editing and validation. • Document complex systems. • Manage version standards.
Other (5%) • Demonstrate accountability for own growth and competency. Participate in and seeks out opportunities and activities which provide for continuing education, skills development and self-improvement inclusive of requirements for annual training and education. • Participate in all aspects of improving the team, including education/training of other team members and contributing to process/communication improvement initiatives. • Work with manager to set professional goals for career development. • Act as back-up for other team members and functions, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
6+ years technology experience should include: • 6+ years’ of progressively responsible experience with systems design, analysis, installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of workstations, system software, and drivers in support of end user computing devices. • 5+ years’ experience with systems administration, troubleshooting, maintenance-related programming, and production support. • Extensive experience with SCCM Server administration. • Extensive experience with virtual end devices and applications. • Advanced understanding of Active Directory architecture. • Advanced scripting experience (VBScript and/or ADSI to manage Active Directory). • Strong project management skills.
DESIRED
• Previous experience in and knowledge of academic healthcare systems and/or operational environments. • Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s, PhD, etc.). • Experience supporting multiple Active Directory domains.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The majority of work is performed during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
ITS provides services to all UW Medicine organizations – HMC, UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-NW, VMC, UWNC, UWP, SOM, and ALNW. The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
