The Engineering Advising & Student Engagement (EASE) Center provides student programming and advising for a population of roughly 1,000 first-year undergraduate Engineering Undeclared students. The mission of the EASE team is to create opportunities for engineering exploration, foster intentional, inclusive community, and empower students to maximize their UW experience. Undergraduate academic advising at the University of Washington is a core element of the university's focus on student learning. As educators, advisers partner with the campus community to cultivate our students' intellectual development. As guides and advocates, advisers collaborate with students to craft a transformative educational experience so that they may become informed, articulate, and thoughtful students of the university and citizens of the world.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Academic Advising (65%)

  • Provide one-on-one developmental advising for a caseload of approximately 350 Engineering Undeclared students.- Helping to make connections between their strengths/interests/values and the university curriculum.- Providing resources to assist with overcoming difficulties that may hinder their academic performance or finding a sense of purpose in their undergraduate education.- Assisting with finding internships, undergraduate research opportunities, personal development opportunities, and/or relevant student organizations.- Guiding the integrating of their educational and career plans.- Providing resources/tools to develop transferable life skills.- Helping to interpret College and University requirements and navigating the complexity of a large institution.

  • Provide regular, high-volume Quick Question advising hours.

  • Perform outreach and strengths-based advising to students who are on academic warning, probation, or otherwise have not met continuation requirements.

  • Collaborate with other campus partners, as necessary, to provide holistic advising services to Engineering Undeclared students.Programmatic and Administrative Responsibilities (30%)

  • Serve as liaison to Engineering Living Learning Community

  • Facilitate resident advisor (RA) Autumn training.

  • Attend regular meetings with campus partners.

  • Coordinate ENGRUD events, and CoE Departmental participation, etc.

  • Meet biweekly with Resident Director and Assistant Resident Director

  • Coordinate the annual LLC memorandum of understanding review.

  • Serve as the liaison to one or more of the academic services offices across campus to holistically support advisees; effectively communicate any program changes.

  • Recruit, select, hire, train, and supervise at least one peer adviser to provide consistent quick questions advising hours for ENGRUDs, group advising info sessions, and support for the UW “interest changer” population.

  • Lead the organization and execution of a culminating ENGRUD event in the Spring quarter.

  • Review and assess student Placement Request Forms to support the placement process of Engineering Undeclared students into engineering majors.

  • Assist in the delivery of the college's major programs such as Advising & Orientation, Engineering Exploration Night, etc.

  • Support development and implementation of workshops around registration and placement preparation.

  • Participate in Admitted Student Day by assisting with presentations and working at the "Ask an Adviser" station.Support Engineering Advising & Student Engagement Team(s) (5%)

  • Support the Engineering First-Year Interest Group (E-FIG) program as needed. Examples of support include assisting with selecting Engineering Peer Educators (EPEs), meeting individually with a sub-group of EPEs for biannual check-ins, and/or observing their GEN ST 199 class sessions to provide meaningful feedback.

  • Assist with supporting front desk employees on issues relating to triaging email, telephone, and walk-in inquiries. Provide backup support to the engradv email account.

  • Communicate with College of Engineering IT and web development teams to make updates as needed to MyENGRUD and CoE websites.

  • Contribute to the annual process of updating engineering major sample four-year plans.

  • Participate regularly in professional development activities to support learning, growth, and best practices. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Science, Engineering, Humanities discipline, or related field.

  • Three years of academic advising, student counseling, or teaching experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including public speaking and ability to articulate ideas clearly.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills including effectively managing various tasks in the context of a fast-paced environment while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results.

  • Flexibility to work occasional evening and/or weekend events both on and off campus.

  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds with or without reasonable assistance. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with engineering/STEM.

  • Experience with Microsoft and Google workspace platforms.

  • Experience successfully organizing, planning, and executing events.
