This position is ideal for someone who wants to gain experience working in an industrial laboratory environment, learn industry standard good manufacturing practices (GMP), and is ready to learn new skills and procedures. Complete on-the-job training is provided, and we are happy to work around class schedules.

Experience and skills needed to be successful in this position

  • Completion of college level general chemistry series
  • Enjoys working with a team and individually
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Easily adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to adhere to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good written and verbal communication skills


  • Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) per GMP 
  • Operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining lab equipment and machinery
  • Cleaning and maintaining laboratory environment.
  • Assist in conducting experiments and recording data accurately
  • Collaborate with other team members to learn and achieve goals
  • Assist in the preparation of reports

Specific Opportunities for training/activities

Protein Purification

  •  Preparation of buffers
  • Assisting in monitoring E.coli growths via OD560 measurement
  • Sample prep for and running SDS-PAGE
  • Exposure to general protein purification techniques

Transfer Team

  • Conjugation of proteins to gold nanoparticles
  • Stripping proteins onto the Nitrocellulose membrane
  • Preparation of buffers for treating different types of lateral flow assay components
  • Construction of lateral flow assay test strip in dry room
  • Performance (sensitivity/specificity) evaluation of lateral flow test

Tissue Culture

  • Cell line freeze/thaw
  • Cell passage and scaleup
  • Preparation of media

Seasonal Employment Term

This is a temporary job that is designed to accommodate a student who is looking for approximately 6-10 weeks of employment during their summer break. We prefer an applicant who can commit to a minimum of 6 weeks either part-time or full-time, but we are open to considering a shorter or longer term.
