The Amazon Profiles, Preferences, and Family team builds foundational systems that enable individualized personalization across Amazon's services. With the rise of Generative AI and increasing customer expectations for personalization, we're solving complex technical challenges that impact how customers interact with the Amazon Store and Amazon's range of services worldwide.

We are seeking a hands-on Software Development Manager to lead the development of next-generation profile and sharing services. You will be deep in code and architecture, working on systems that handle millions of requests per second and impact every customer interaction across Amazon. A successful candidate combines technical depth with great communication skills and a drive to deliver results in a collaborative environment.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of engineers building critical profile and sharing services that power experiences across Amazon

• Drive the technical integration of profile systems across multiple Amazon services, including the Store, Prime Video, Alexa, and more

• Excel as a people manager: motivating, mentoring, and developing your team is the most important part of this role. You will recruit top talent and drive engineering excellence

• Maintain strong technical skills to contribute to architecture decisions and design discussions

• Set technical vision for your team and create roadmaps that balance customer experience, technical debt, and business requirements

• Partner with product and business teams to define requirements and deliver solutions that enable new customer experiences.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience

• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
