Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Resilience & Sustainability (ESG) Operations Lead to help manage and grow our ESG practice areas within the US West region. Aligning with Sustainable Legacies – AECOM’s global ESG strategy, and overall regional growth strategy, this role will improve the contributions of the ESG consulting and delivery business for the region. A primary focus of this role is to drive industry transformation through embedding core principles of ESG into project delivery.

The Sustainability Consultant will report directly to the Regional Sustainability Director under the Chief Growth Officer and will work with other regional leaders across each of the firm’s business verticals. This will be a hybrid position including a combination of both remote and in-office scheduling and can be located in any US based, West Region office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support and collaborate with the regional sustainability leader to develop strategic approaches and tactical plans, support implementation, and manage their execution within the region.

  • Serve as key point person in embedding Sustainable Legacies across major pursuits in the region.

  • Leverage and grow the business line sustainability leads to develop and maintain across the region:

  • Embedding ESG across all project delivery

  • Supporting growth and quality work within the practices

  • Tracking of sustainability maturity and adoption KPIs, tactical plans, blockers, and successes to support the progression of sustainability adoption engagements in the region.

  • Pipeline of pursuits, market demand, and project delivery to understand overall backlog and growth.

  • Technical competencies of the talent pool to understand overall organizational competencies in relation to current and future work demands.

  • Collaborate with supporting department leaders such as IT, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Quality, HR, and Talent Management to align needs and progressions of the sustainability team.

  • Engage as a technical resource in strategically selected projects to provide advisement, strategy development, and solutioning within teams.

  • Engage in strategically selected pursuits to provide advisement, proposal development, and technical approaches to align with pursuit teams messaging.

  • Lead the coordination between pursuit and capture management teams to develop technical scope, budget, assumptions, and clarifications.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Resilience & Sustainability Operations Lead V - BA/BS + 8 years of experience in a Sustainable Legacies-related service area with a proven track record in collaborating to grow new market sector(s) in consulting or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education


  • Resilience & Sustainability Operations Lead VI - BA/BS + 10 years of experience in a Sustainable Legacies-related service area with a proven track record in collaborating to grow new market sector(s) in consulting or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education


  • Demonstrated understanding of core consulting firm business fundamentals and organizational structures.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage across business lines and industry verticals to effectively develop understanding and drive collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow relationships with leadership, client management teams, and internal administrative teams to align priorities and engagements.

  • Demonstrated experience in development of scopes, fees, and proposals for sustainability consulting, delivery, and product offerings.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder management skill.

  • Independent and collaborative worker, creative.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in architectural, engineering, environmental consulting, or other associated infrastructure professional consulting industries.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science, engineering, architecture, planning or a related field of study.

  • Advanced degree or study in an ESG-related field.

  • Proven track record in delivery ESG to meet client needs.

  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $135K to $185K.
