The Student and Enrollment Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Residence Life Coordinator to join their team.

The Residence Life Coordinator at the University of Washington Tacoma is a live-in position that is a vital part of the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) team. They are responsible for supervising 6 Resident Advisors, as well as overseeing the daily activities of the building, and housing of 300 students.

This position will counsel, advise, and refer individual students to appropriate resources. They will assist with the administrative functions of operating the residence hall and participate in the on-call and emergency response system.

This role lives in the building in order to be responsive to student needs, cultivate community, and manage risk. Success in this role includes:

  • demonstrating judgment in crisis situations, including incidents that may involve campus or community emergency personnel

  • applying thorough knowledge of campus and community resources to facilitate referral of students in need

  • interpreting and applying UW policies and procedures to counsel and advise students / student leaders and to develop programs DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Staff Supervision & Development:

  • Lead training and supervising Resident Advisors (RAs)

  • Assist in training and supervising front desk staff

  • Assist in weekly or bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with RAs

  • Monitor and maintain an in-hall front desk & duty rotation system

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of new student staff

  • Empower RA staff to resolve roommate conflicts, serving as a resource in the establishment of roommate contract agreements to mediate conflictCommunity Development:

  • Responsible for all social media contact with students concerning Housing & Residence Life

  • Monitor and provide support and guidance in the implementation of a programming model put forth by the Office of Housing and Residence Life (HRL)

  • Support the mission of the Office of HRL through purposeful programming initiatives

  • Attend and support hall programming

  • Maintaining visibility throughout the hall community

  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to respect for the environment and for one anotherAdministration:

  • Maintain an accurate roster of residents that is up-to-date at all times, coordinating occupancy verifications monthly

  • Attend HRL Staff training at the beginning of each quarter

  • Oversee the management of a programming budget

  • Process paperwork in a timely manner in accordance with all policies and procedures

  • Create and manage the work schedules of RAs and Front Desk Assistants to maintain office/desk coverage

  • Meet one-on-one weekly with the Director of Residence Life and Housing.

  • Assist in the coordination of hall openings and closings

  • Facilitate room changes

  • Assist in monthly health and wellness checks

  • Assist in shared email inbox responses and organizationOther Responsibilities:

  • Serve on a professional and para-professional 24-hour on-call rotation for emergency situations that arise after-hours, weekends, including some holidays

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing & Residence Life MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related field AND two years of experience in residence life, which may include having served as a resident assistant or as a leader in residence hall government. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with, and strong commitment to, serving an ethnically, culturally and socio-economically diverse population. Must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Ability and willingness to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Ability and willingness to reside in the assigned residence hall community (furnished apartment). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with StarRez Housing software.

  • Experience with Simplicity Advocate.

  • Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related field.

  • Supervisory experience.
