The Khor laboratory{rel="nofollow"} is seeking a high-mentoring, high-achieving environment currently seeking a highly motivated and creative individual for the position of Research Technician I-II The individual will be engaged in studying novel pathways regulating inflammation and autoimmunity, particularly in the context of Down syndrome. As a Research Technician I will be responsible for providing technical laboratory support for biomedical research projects performing both routine and non-routine lab procedures. This is a transitory training position; the selected individual will receive strong mentoring to promote scientific growth and development. As a Research Technician II you will be responsible for performing investigative work for research project, performing experimental procedures and operating specialized and highly technical laboratory equipment. The selected individual will also receive strong mentoring to promote scientific growth and development towards future professional goals.

 

*Responsibilities: *

  • Preparing laboratory reagents, chemicals, stocks, cultures and cell lines.
  • Operating a variety of laboratory instruments such as flow cytometers, spectrometers, electrophoresis radiation counters, PCR machines, measuring instruments and devices
  • Performing chemical, physical, or biological analyses following written protocols
  • Working with mice, including immunization and surgeries if this is the focus of the project
  • Preparing fractionated samples from blood using sterile technique
  • Maintain laboratory records by recording detailed data, including photography and computer input, in a literate and thorough manner
  • Prepare slides for light or fluorescent microscopy
  • Conduct literature search and read literature applicable to research area
  • Conduct lab inventory, complete purchase orders for hardware, glassware, and supplies

``` - Prepare progress reports including gathering, organizing, and interpreting data and preparing data for presentations and manuscripts. - Confer with other scientific personnel; attend seminars and technical meetings. - Initiate and conduct experimental protocols with minimal instruction. - May train and/or supervise lab aides/techs.

 

Requirements:

  • Research Tech I: BA/BS in a scientific field and basic laboratory skills required. Prior experience in a laboratory environment preferred
  • Research Tech II: Requires a BA/BS in a scientific field and a minimum of 2-3 years of progressively responsible work experience in a scientific research laboratory
  • Must have basic mathematical, data recording, computer database, data and statistical analysis skills.
  • May require skill in animal surgery techniques
  • Prior experience with experiments involving mammalian tissue culture and multiparameter flow cytometry preferred

Compensation:

Research Tech I: $22.46 to $31.89 per hour

Research Tech II: $25.90 to $38.08 per hour
