The Department of Pharmaceutics in the School of Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated Research Scientist/Engineer 1. . Under the guidance of the Principal Investigators (Jash Unadkat), the Research Scientist/Engineer I will be responsible for managing the lab, and running experiments focused on predicting the in vivo disposition of drugs based on in vitro studies (e.g. qPCR, quantitative targeted proteomics, transporter/enzyme activity assays). While this position will generally follow established standard operating procedures of the research laboratory, the incumbent should be highly flexible and work well in a dynamic research environment. Strong attention to detail, record keeping and quantitation is required.

RESEARCH PURPOSE:

To predict the disposition of medicinal drugs in humans based on in vitro studies using cell culture and quantitative techniques such as qPCR, quantitative targeted proteomics, and activity assays of transporters and enzymes.

AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Research - 95%

  • Conduct BSL2 level research on human tissues or primary cells, cells expressing human proteins; specific duties will include working with clinical research coordinators to procure human tissue, process tissue, prepare, propagate, and preserve primary cells from human tissues

  • Using primary or continuous cells expressing human proteins, conduct molecular profiling of gene expression, immunostaining of the cells, conduct LC-MS/MS assays to quantify the proteins or medicinal drugs and work with hazardous chemicals/drugs

  • Collect and organize electronic copies of laboratory protocols, SOPs, chemical inventories, and lab personnel assigned duties; manage all safety aspects of the laboratory

  • Review scientific journals, abstracts and other literature concerning experimental procedures and confer with Principal Investigators to implement experimental procedures

  • Perform basic data analysis and prepare reports summarizing experimental research results

  • Keeping detailed laboratory notebook records of research studies

  • Operate complex and highly specialized laboratory instruments and equipment in support of research activities; may instructs others in their use

  • Acquire and analyze data for manuscript publication; use standard software to analyze data such as Excel, GraphPad/Prism

  • Review the work of laboratory personnel; instruct other lab personnel on research techniques listed above

  • Attend lab meetings and research seminars as relevant to laboratory activity

  • Assist lab personnel in conduct of their research Administration

  • Other duties as assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field

  • At least 3 to 12 months of research experience in the areas listed above or a related areaEquivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent records-keeping ability, and strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in cell culture and qPCR

  • Excellent quantitative skills

  • Works well with others in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

  • Willing to conduct routine laboratory tasks DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
