The Soden Lab in the UW Department of Pharmacology is seeking a Research Scientist/Engineer 1 (NE S UAW RSE) to support research projects aiming to understand the dissociable roles of neuropeptides and fast neurotransmitters within neural circuits that regulate dopamine neuron activity and dopamine release.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Research activities (75%)

  • Perform optogenetic and fiber photometry experiments in mice.

  • Perform genotyping of mouse lines.

  • Perform histology on mouse brain tissue.

  • Perform additional experiments as requested.

  • Assist with data processing and analysis.Laboratory management (25%)

  • Assist with mouse colony management, including breeding and weaning mice.

  • Assist with lab organization and ordering of supplies.

  • Assist with supervising undergraduate student research volunteers. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, or molecular biology and one of experience handling laboratory rodents and preforming mouse behavioral experiments

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, or molecular biology.

  • One to three years of job-related experience.

  • Experience handling laboratory rodents.

  • Experience with mouse behavioral experiments.

  • Experience with fiber photometry.

  • Experience with basic coding in Matlab or Python.
