The Norris and Dorothy Haring Center for Research and Training in Inclusive Education grew out of 50 years of groundbreaking work in special education at the Experimental Education Unit. The Haring Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist. Reporting to the Haring Center Director (Dr. Kathleen Artman Meeker), the Research Scientist will work with the Haring Center team to design, implement, analyze, and disseminate research related to early childhood inclusion. This role will also serve as a subject matter expert in this area and will produce customized technical trainings to external partners and collaborators in the field, oversee the conceptualization and implementation of research and evaluation activities, and orchestrate internal and external communications and outreach efforts as they relate to this initiative. This position will include supporting the development of new research projects, seeking new funding, and working with colleagues on existing research projects. The Research Scientist will work with colleagues and students from multiple disciplines and, in addition to demonstrating disciplinary excellence, must be able to work collaboratively across disciplines.
This position requires someone with a broad knowledge about early childhood/early childhood special education research, state and federal policies, and initiatives on supporting the early learning workforce and early childhood inclusion. It also requires expertise in higher education to provide faculty and administrators with a clear perspective about the options for delivering online courses, programs or degrees. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to work with communities and students from diverse backgrounds holding a range of worldviews. This is a grant-based position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Project Implementation
Manage multiple complex research projects
Oversee participant recruitment and represent Haring Center research in schools, agencies, IHEs, and communities
Serve as primary contact for research partners including school districts, community-based organizations, and colleagues from other IHEs
Develop technical proposals and research materials, tools, and products
Complete Human Subject applications and manage the Human Subjects application, approval, and renewal process and other university requirements for ethical research with youth
Take an active role preparing reports and interfacing with Project Officers/Funders alongside PI
Oversee complex staffing and project management tasks across projects.
Develop relationships with and collaborate with families, advocates and professionals in other organizations interested in inclusive education
Mentor and train junior staff and graduate students
Publish research reports and other manuscripts with colleagues from UW and other institutionsResearch Development
Assist with successful proposals for major federal grants
Secure and lead internal independent grants.
Provide leadership in major intellectual development activities
Contribute major independent advances in scientific thinking in our field
Provide service to the field and leadership as evidenced by service on editorial boards or grant review panels, invited talks, and/or leadership roles in national professional organizations.Internal Collaboration
Provide leadership related to bilingual content development across all Haring Center Professional Development Materials and strategies for expanding professional development offerings
Develop and deliver professional development in Spanish
Develop and/or refine materials to align with Haring Center Professional Development offeringsOther duties and responsibilities as assigned by the PIs MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Master's in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis or related field,
4 years' experience working on grant funded projects and working directly with children, families, or professionals as a teacher, therapist, related service provider, etc. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience teaching in higher education
Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently
Ability to develop and present professional materials in Spanish
Demonstrated ability to work across diverse groups and contribute to an inclusive community.
Knowledge of and experience in early childhood/special education classrooms
Knowledge of and experience in providing behavioral support to students with disabilities
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
Experiencing mentoring, supervising, and/or providing feedback to adult learners
Reliable transportation
