Within UAA, the Community College Research Initiatives (CCRI) is a research group committed to generating actionable, timely research that supports more equitable college access and completion, critically informed student support, and improved educational pathways from access to transfer, graduation, and into the workforce. Our goal is to leverage this research to effect change in postsecondary education at all levels.

CCRI has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 4 to join our team! The position has the possibility to be fully remote or hybrid.

The Research Scientist will be crucial in supporting multiple CCRI projects, including helping co-lead a grant to increase low-income STEM students' transfer and completion of baccalaureate degrees via transfer partnerships. They will also participate in our Rural Mentorship grant, which examines mentorship opportunities for low-income students at rural community colleges across the country and multiple evaluation projects. This Research Scientist works directly with the director, fellow researchers, and staff to identify, produce, and publish funded research and lead efforts to obtain new funding for research and projects.

Responsibilities also include collecting, coding, analyzing, and managing data. Draft, develop, and write scientific manuscripts and reports and prepare and present them at scientific and stakeholder meetings. Prepare and manage UW Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Grants and Contracts requirements. Assist in the grant application and paperwork process. Co-lead the development, design, and facilitation of a community of practice convenings, support team's data collection, and CCRI's data collection to answer research and evaluation questions. Co-facilitate faculty training, support student communities of practice and create infrastructure for team growth, effectiveness, and sustainability. This position supports CCRI in conducting research to increase knowledge about higher education and educational policy and practice associated with higher education to improve educational outcomes for racially minoritized students and students from low-income backgrounds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works in concert with the CCRI director and fellow CCRI researchers to coordinate the planning, development, and submission of competitive research and applied research proposals. Co-lead oversight of research protocols and deliverables, data collection, data coding and analysis, data management, as well as writing up data summaries on several projects (25%).

  • Co-author briefs and reports that summarize major findings and author papers and presentations and participate in dissemination activities (20%).

  • Assist in the design and co-facilitation of transfer partnership convenings and infrastructure to support teams and support student community of practice (20%).

  • Manages and supports the execution of scope of work, deliverables, and budgets of multiple grants and contracts, including acting as CCRI’s point person with the Office of Sponsored Projects and other UW groups supporting funded research (20%).

  • Participate in team meetings, strategic planning, equity initiatives, and future grant needs. Builds relationships, growing CCRI’s network of constituents and consumers, and represents CCRI with internal and external stakeholders. (15%). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in related field and four years of relevant experience Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Working knowledge of practices, policies, and issues related to vertical transfer.

  • Experience with successful grant writing experience, relationship building, International Review Board (IRB) applications, to support research group efforts.

  • Experience creating, collecting, analyzing data, and writing up results.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific information in clear and concise language appropriate for diverse audiences (e.g., scientists, policy makers, university students)

  • Experience in design, implementation, and analysis of evaluation protocols.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively.

  • Excellent written and oral communication and facilitation skills.

  • Experience successfully working as part of a team.Applicants must have a demonstrated record of research productivity in the form of relevant publications, conference presentations and experience with research related grant funding. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in education, social sciences, or related field.

  • Two or more years of relevant work experience in education research and experimental design outside of graduate school.

  • Knowledge and experience with community college transfer, transfer partnerships, STEM education, equity, and diversity in higher education.

  • Experience with successful grant procurement and management.

  • Strategic and critical thinker.
