ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY:The James lab at Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) is hiring motivated scientists to join a rapidly expanding research program focused on B cell engineering. The ultimate goal of the B cell engineering group is to develop novel cell therapies that provide sustained production of therapeutic proteins from gene-edited, adoptively transferred, autologous plasma B cells. Learn more about the SCRI B cell program here: https://vimeo. com/646051754For this position, we are seeking a highly motivated molecular biologist and/or immunologist to participate in projects related to gene delivery in B cells. The successful candidate will help develop a program for delivery of therapeutic proteins by B cells. The short-term goals of this program are to developing gene editing strategies for delivery of therapeutic payloads for oncology applications. This will involve Isolation of B cells from peripheral blood mononuclear cells, introduction of gene editing reagents, characterization of protein secretion and protein function, and in vivo modeling of the cell therapy. The successful candidate will identify and develop relevant tumor models for assessing the in vivo efficacy of the B cell oncology product.In addition, the applicant will collaborate with the principal investigators to plan, and interpret experiments. The applicant will be required to independently select and apply standardized scientific procedures, contribute to the design and planning of experiments, troubleshoot experiments, make detailed observations, record data and assist in the preparation of reports, papers and presentations. Additionally, the research scientist will participate in the guidance/mentoring of junior staff. In this role, the research scientist will spend equal time focusing on molecular and cell biology applications, and in rodent experiments.RequirementsRequired Education/Experience: - PhD or M. D. in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or other closely related field - Minimum of four (4) years experience in required field of specialization - Prior experience with laboratory management or other relevant research field.Preferred:- PhD in molecular biology, immunology, bioengineering, virology or a related field- Experience with laboratory coordination, working with research staff and training technicians- Strong presentation and/or writing skills- Expertise in protocol development and troubleshooting- Recent evidence of publication- Experience with molecular biology and Illumina library preparation, AND/OR- Demonstrated expertise in flow cytometry and sorting of immune cells- Experience with lentiviral vector preparation and virologyAbout UsHope.
