Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Scientist IV, Supervisor - Viral Core in Seattle, Washington
Responsibilities: Summary of position: We are seeking a laboratory scientist (RSIV-supervisor) with interests in viral therapies and production, hematopoietic cell therapies, gene editing and translational immunology. You will join a robust research team expanding upon our novel AAV and lentiviral platforms and HSC stem gene editing approaches for treating immune disorders and manage the viral core. These projects are led by Dr. David Rawlings, Director of the Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies, at the Seattle Children's Research Institute. Job Responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day operations of viral core facility which produces lentiviral and AAV vectors for center. Manage team of 4-6 staff members and coordinate their schedules and tasks within facility. Helping to plan, design, execute, trouble-shoot, and interpret experiments aimed at virus production and generating novel gene therapy/editing reagents, and testing the efficacy of gene therapy/editing reagents in cell culture or mouse models. Participate in research and development activities to improve the facility's capabilities and offerings. Follow detailed experimental protocols, make observations, record data and present results. Assist others in the laboratory and help maintain a constructive laboratory environment. Good communication, teamwork, organization, interpersonal and creative thinking skills are a must. Depending on the applicant's strengths and preferences, this position may include Lab Management responsibilities (25-30%) - Responsible for helping oversee the day-to-day operational needs of the laboratory including: The organization of laboratory materials, spaces, personnel, and equipment to ensure a clean and efficient environment for conducting cutting edge research. Assist with laboratory operations including helping to order and receive supplies, work with vendors for equipment repairs, and communicate with team members regarding operational issues. Help train laboratory personnel and assist with maintaining IACUC and IBC protocols, including helping to write protocols or amendments. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comfortable in fast paced environment and able to work collaboratively. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people. Proficient organizational skills Effective data collection, reduction, and summary skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively prioritize work across projects. Ability to work with general guidance/limited supervision. Requirements: Required Education/Experience: PhD or M.D. in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or other closely related field. Minimum of four (4) years experience in required field of specialization. Prior experience with laboratory management or other relevant research field. Min to Max Hourly Salary: $48.91 - $73.36 /hr Min to Max Annual Salary: $101,732.80 - $152,588.80 /yr Salary Information: This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
