The Savan lab in the Department of Immunology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2. POSITION PURPOSE This position will support research activities in an immunology research laboratory focused on viral diseases and autoimmunity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tasks and experimental techniques to be performed will include:
Basic molecular biology including miRNA extraction and quantification, mutagenesis, luciferase assays, transfection of plasmids/siRNAs/miRNA, nucleofection, western blotting, plasmid cloning, and qRT-PCR.
Multicolor flow cytometry, image-stream and immunofluorescence microscopy.
Perform genomic techniques such as ChIP seq, ATAC seq, and RNA-seq library preps.
Organize and analyze research data.
Prepare laboratory reagents.
Inventory, order, and restock laboratory supplies.
Prepare the lab for inspections.
Participate in laboratory meetings.
Guides the work of undergraduate employees.
Perform related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences or related field.
Two or more years of experience in managing a medium-sized laboratory, ordering supplies for the laboratory and experience in writing protocols for biological use authorization as well as maintaining updated lab safety protocols. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience in training staff in Biosafety Level 2 practices, handling laboratory chemicals, Bloodborne Pathogens training and handling OPIMs.
Highly motivated and able to work in a team environment within a laboratory setting.
Ability to organize and multitask, attentive to details, and excellent time management skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience with molecular biology techniques including miRNA extraction and quantification, mutagenesis, luciferase assays, transfection of plasmids/siRNAs/miRNA, nucleofection, western blotting, plasmid cloning, and qRT-PCR.
Experience in genomic techniques such as ChIP seq, ATAC seq, and RNA-seq.
Well versed in flow-cytometry and image stream assays and subsequent downstream analyses.
