This employee will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, compiling, distributing and archiving data generated in the laboratory and at sea from discrete and continuous sampling instruments in support of Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol research conducted by CICOES and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This CICOES/UW employee will work within the Atmospheric Chemistry Group at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory performing cutting-edge research on climate impacts of aerosol particles.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 80% Laboratory and Field Work

· Assist in the development, building, testing, maintenance and operation of sea-going aerosol instrument modules and Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) aerosol payloads. · Participate in group field studies · During field studies, perform daily instrument checks, calibrations, and preliminary data analysis to assure that the instruments are working correctly. · Carefully document work so there is a detailed record of instrument performance. · Trouble-shoot and repair non-performing instruments

20% Data Management and other Tasks

· Compile, analyze, distribute, and archive data and metadata generated by the PMEL Atmospheric Chemistry Group. · Perform quality checks of data and manage these data in several digital formats commonly used by collaborators and national data archiving centers. · Maintain the Group webpage · Participate in Group outreach activities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in engineering or scientific discipline and two years of relevant experience to include experience using basic computer programs like Word and Excel to compile and manage data and some computer programming skills.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication skills. • Proficient using basic computer programs like Word and Excel to compile and manage data and write technical reports. • Experience with computer programming, especially Python, and data processing methods. A willingness to become proficient in these areas. • Ability to work on coastal and open-ocean research and commercial vessels with little supervision for a period of days to over a month and comfortable travelling alone to remote locations to board ships

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with aerosol instrumentation • Experience with programming data acquisition systems • Seagoing experience on research vessels. • Experience troubleshooting complex analytical instruments. • Experience with networking instruments and computers. • Experience with electronics and circuit design • Lift 20-25 pounds alone, or heavier items with assistance
