The Department of Biochemistry has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1.

The Hoppins lab seeks a research scientist 1 to aid with our project to undertand the role of Misato1 in mitochondrial fusion and maintenance of mitochondrial genomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include: • Cell biology and biochemistry experiments to assess the function of Misato1 in vertebrate cell culture models 75% • Support their own research and that of the of the rest of the lab through basic lab support including media preparation, lab organization, maintenance tasks, and basic molecular biology 25%

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field + 1 year of Experience in related field, OR equivalent combination of education/experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of basic biochemistry and cell biology. Experience with cell culture, microscopy, and basic molecular biology. Knowledge of basic mitochondrial and/or membrane biology.

Desired:
Knowledge or experience in protein purification or analysis of fluorescent microscopy images.
