POSITION PURPOSE Over the next 5 years, the IPD hopes to advance 5-10 products from its own pipeline through pre-clinical proof of concept to pre-IND or IND stage assets. The goal of this role is to help advance the assets coming from the IPD portfolio through pre-clinical product development. The ideal candidate would have R&D project management experience on at least one preclinical development project. Candidates who have preclinical drug discovery experience and are looking to grow into a project management role are encouraged to apply. Individuals with a PhD in a relevant field looking to grow into project management are also encouraged to apply. The role will report to the IPD Chief of Staff and head of program, strategy, and management and will work closely with the IPD’s translational leads and Baker, King, and Bhardwaj labs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Position Complexities

Product development is a complex, multidisciplinary process and a successful individual would need to be able to:

  • interface with many aspects of the IPD including: IPD member labs (PIs and postdoctoral scholars and graduate students), the Core R&D labs who serve as functional teams that can contribute to advancing candidates, and IPD Translational leadership.

  • demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, acting as the main point of contact between internal and external stakeholders.

  • drive progress for complex research programs and manage development timelines.

  • rapidly establish an understanding of the scientific research, the goals associated with each program and the steps required to achieve critical milestones.Position Dimensions and Impact to the UniversityThe Research Coordinator 8 role is integral to guiding IPD’s priority programs and projects successfully through to their desired endpoints, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met along the way. This role will support the complex landscape of translational activities at the IPD and empower teams to create and develop new products, technologies, and businesses all from within the University of Washington.(80%) Project management of high-priority programs and projects

  • Oversee the development and execution of research programs at the IPD.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including: IPD member lab scientists, IPD Core R&D labs, IPD translational teams, and IPD administrative and operations teams, to drive progress and success of each program and project.

  • Monitor and track program progress via clear timelines, deliverables, and milestones. Build in risk mitigation plans as needed.

  • Work with project team to develop research strategy and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

  • Communicate program updates and progress, key scientific deliverables and milestones, and other relevant information to all key stakeholders.

  • Coordinate execution of required agreements and contracts with external stakeholders (sponsors, collaborators, CROs, vendors, etc).

  • Be the main point of contact between internal research team and external collaborators.

  • Ability to work on and track multiple tasks in parallel, maintaining progress and quality.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision.(20%) Meetings and documentation

  • Schedule and run relevant meetings integral to program/project progress, building agendas, drafting minutes, and tracking important action items.

  • In collaboration with research teams, build written materials such as study design and protocols, scopes of work, data slides, and more.

  • Prepare written technical and fiscal reports to sponsors as needed.Lead ResponsibilitiesThis role may assign action items to research team members or outside collaborators to move projects forward. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in Science related fields of Biology, Immunology, Bioengineering, etc + 2 years or more of relevant experience in related field. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 2- 3 years of equivalent experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract research organizations. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Doctoral Degree -PhD in a Science related fields (Biology, Immunolgy, bioengineering etc).Experience with certain aspects of preclinical drug development.Track record of success in a team environment.Ability to verbally communicate with scientists across disciplines.Ability to schedule meetings, set agendas and keep meeting participants on track.Strong writing skills with the ability to take detailed meeting minutes and craft action items.Detail and milestone oriented.Experience with project management software, Google, Microsoft Office, Gantt, etc.Prior biotechnology or related project management experience is a plus but not required.
