The UW Department of Medicine’s Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (DAID) has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary , Full-Time Research Coordinator.

This position will support the Chu Lab in the clinical research portion for several large-scale studies of the epidemiology and transmission of respiratory pathogens in the Seattle area. We are seeking someone who is excited about the opportunity of working in a fast -paced environment, and who has resourcefulness, independent problem solving, excellent time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to negotiate and communicate priorities.

Position Complexities: Assist in the implementation of study protocols and procedures. Perform all clinical research participant communications including recruitment, informed consent, study visit scheduling, and answering participant questions. Conduct clinical study research visits and assist in the collection of study data and biospecimens.

Position Dimensions: The University of Washington is committed to research that utilizes epidemiologic studies to further general understanding and knowledge surrounding incidence, prevalence, risk factors and prevention of infectious diseases including influenza and SARS-CoV-2. The Chu Lab, part of the Department of Medicine, Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has a history of running multiple large scale studies that have contributed greatly to repertoire on RSV/influenza and, more recently, SARS-CoV-2 research. This position will be participant facing and will include interactions with University of Washington clinicians as well as external collaborating groups, and will make a significant contribution to meeting project goals and adding to the growing field of infectious disease research.

Duties & Responsibilities: Study Coordination: 60%

• Assist in recruitment and enrollment of study participants, walk participants through the informed consent process, and assist with scheduling and tracking of study visits • Manage day-to-day research study visits including facilitating blood draws with clinics, recording and inputting participant clinical data, transporting biospecimen samples between clinical areas and laboratory, and maintaining enrollment supply inventory • Monitor and track participant study activities and progress using REDCap and other software • Perform medical chart review and enter laboratory results from participant medical charts into study data tracking systems • Prep supplies and materials for upcoming study appointments

Participant Communications: 20%

• Monitor the study email inbox and respond to participant questions • Schedule participants for informed consent calls and study visits • Send out monthly surveys to study participants • Send study updates via an electronic mailing list

External Team Communication & Collaboration: 10%

• Attend weekly collaborator meetings • Liaise with study partners at the Translational Research Unit and Institute for Systems Biology • Liaise with collaborating groups regarding collection and handoff of study samples

Protocol Development & Updates: 10%

• In collaboration with team members, develop and execute clinical protocols • Provide feedback on study procedures and methodology to continue improving and streamlining the study protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) • Revise study materials and protocol as needed to align with new study design changes throughout the study period • Adhere to study protocol and design • Develop SOPs with the supervision of the program manager and PI

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, or science related field. Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement. At least one year of experience to including:

• Prior experience in clinical research, laboratory research, or project coordination.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Training and/or knowledge in ethical conduct of research with human subjects • Knowledge and prior experience with study coordination in an academic environment • Knowledge and prior experience with human subjects institutional review process including developing protocols and working with the IRB for approvals

Working Environmental Conditions:

The ability to multi-task and be flexible while maintaining a professional demeanor is crucial as priorities change throughout each day. May have to respond to multiple requests for information (e-mail, voicemail, fax, verbal), determining priorities.

There may be meetings or appointments over which an individual has no control that require a flexible schedule in order to accommodate, such as patient coordination needs, study sponsor deadlines, research program needs, grant deadlines, and faculty needs. This position is located in a clinical and research environment that is located at South Lake Union UW campus and the Research Coordinator will have a designated workspace.
