Title: Research Assistant Job Class: Hourly/Non-Exempt; $22 - 25/hour DOE PI/Reports to: Drs. Summary: The Neurodegenerative Aggregating Proteins Supergroup (NAPS) within the Geriatrics Research and Clinical Center (GRECC) seeks an experienced or entry level research assistant who works well with others to join our multi-disciplinary collaborative research team. The NAPS collaborative is led by Drs. Benbow, Kow, Kraemer, and Liachko, all of whom are faculty in the University of Washington School of Medicine. These laboratories are located on the VA Medical Center Campus in Seattle, Washington. This research collaborative studies the molecular genetics of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This is a full time position working on a research project supported by NIH R01 funding. Tasks will include but not limited to: Maintenance and generation of new C. elegans strains, including transgenic strains and genetic mutant strains PCR genotyping Behavioral assays and phenotyping screens with C. elegans Western blotting, quantitative RT-PCR, and biochemical assays Microscope imaging of C. elegans Data analysis Routine laboratory maintenance tasks Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences Prior independent laboratory research experience in molecular biology or related fields Experience or enthusiasm to learn C. elegans husbandry Effectiveness working both independently and as part of a team 100% in person work Enthusiasm for extensive stereomicroscopy work Additional Desirable Skills: DNA and RNA purification PCR genotyping Western blotting Quantitative RT-PCR Molecular Cloning Protein Biochemistry Confocal or other advanced fluorescent microscopy techniques How to apply: To be considered, please send a cover letter in addition to online application and resume.
