The Counseling Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Psychiatrist. The psychiatrist provides psychiatry services to enrolled UW diverse students to enhance their personal and academic success and ameliorate barriers to that success. This position may provide professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success. This position involves daily intense contact with diverse UW students in psychological or academic distress. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and appropriate referrals - on and off campus - will be required. Ability to effectively work with underserved students is necessary. This position requires excellent crisis intervention skills and a good understanding of risk management issues. The person will be part of an interdisciplinary team designed to enhance the mental health of UW students, create a healthier campus climate and to respond to mental health crises. RESPONSIBILITIES Psychiatry Services Provide psychiatric diagnostic evaluations to currently-enrolled UW students. Formulate and administer treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medication. Monitor medication efficacy and provide ongoing medication management as needed. Provide psychoeducation and brief psychotherapeutic interventions. Facilitate psychiatric hospitalizations as needed. Administrative and coordination of care duties Medication refill. Collaborate on coordination of care as needed with psychotherapists, and consult with medical care providers regarding mental health disorders and psychotropic medication. Make appropriate referrals to campus resources. Make appropriate referrals to community providers or primary care providers. Maintain documentation in a manner compliant with applicable state and federal laws. Training and Departmental Responsibilities Provide education or supervision for mental health professional trainees as needed. Serve on departmental and campus committees. Participate in administrative duties as needed such as quality assurance and/or systems improvement activities. Provide psychiatry and mental health perspective when participating in committees. Engage in professional development to keep current in the field, including maintaining clinical license to practice in Washington. Medical Doctoral Degree
Licensed as psychiatrist in Washington by start date
Evidence of outstanding skills in clinical assessment, medication management, crisis management and psychoeducation
Demonstrated sensitivity to multicultural issues and proven availability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
Two years experience providing patient care, including the prescription of psychotropic medication
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Able to work independently and on a team
Able to problem-solve, handle sensitive information as well as difficulty situations tactfully and confidentially
Competence in Brief Therapy within a med management visit. Willingness and desire to collaborate with psychiatry colleagues and work as a team member for the psychiatry service within the Counseling Center
Interest and commitment to continual learning and updating psychiatry practice according to emerging evidence based practices.
Commitment to the principles of social justice in the delivery of psychiatry services. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED
