The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) is a catalyst and a hub for all things global at the UW, connecting the diverse internal and external networks of scholars, students, and community leaders engaged with international issues. OGA’s major activities include:

• Initiating and supporting scholarly research on global issues across campus units and departments, disseminating information about relevant faculty expertise, funding opportunities, and institutional ties abroad. • Providing a portal through which external stakeholders - including business leaders, representatives of local, regional, and national government, non-governmental organization representatives, international alumni, and ethnic and cultural affinity communities - can learn about and participate in campus activities and resources. • Serving as a central guide and resource for developing and successfully implementing study abroad programs, collaboration with international scholars, the conduct of global research, and the design and nurturing of foreign institutional partnerships. • Supporting UW community members in planning and carrying out UW’s international scholarship and business in a safe, productive manner.

To facilitate these functions, OGA has five main areas of responsibility: administration of study abroad and exchanges; support for international research; oversight of UW's centers and offices abroad; management of UW international relations and protocols; and coordination of strategic initiatives in the key areas of global health, global environment, global technology, global development challenges, and global cultural change.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager for Global Partnerships and Communications in the Office of Global Affairs (OGA). The role is an integral part of OGA’s strategy team. Key functions include:

Oversee international agreements and protocols

Communications and outreach, including promotion of events and activities, website updates and management of social media channels

Administrative and communication support to UW leadership including the Vice Provost for Global Affairs, Associate Vice Provost for Global Affairs, and the Director of Global Engagement

Provide project management for international delegations as necessary

In order to effectively manage this position's duties, the program manager must keep track of numerous moving projects and relationships at once. This person must have the expertise and know-how to: • Host visiting delegations, as well as manage projects involving international groups and partners • Manage a large number of partner agreements, liaising with the Attorney General’s office • Exercise high-level independent judgement and make decisions that accurately reflect the interest and intent of the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Provost • Excel as an editor, and as a writer with a clear, concise, and consistent tone • Utilize critical thinking and assessment skills to streamline workflow and increase efficiencies • Foster productive, positive relationships with colleagues at peer institutions worldwide in order to advance the UW's and OGA's mission goals

The University of Washington views international education, cultural diversity, and the development of globally competent students as central to its educational mission. This position plays an essential role in that mission by developing and managing international strategic initiatives and partnerships. A core function of this position is also to support the Vice Provost who as Senior International Officer is highly influential in all internationally-related areas of the UW's mission and at all levels of the institution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 40% INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT MANAGEMENT

• Manage the UW international partnership agreement process, including policy and system development and refinement, working with departments, colleges and schools to structure and negotiate agreements • Work with the UW Attorney General’s Office to review, modify and pre-approve proposed agreements and contracts, develop and maintain templates • Maintain an inventory of all partnership agreements • Ensure compliance with UW policies and best practices and help units identify and address risks associated with various partnerships

35% COMMUNICATIONS PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION

• Lead UW Global social media communications and outreach activities, including developing OGA’s annual social media marketing and communications plan. • Design, implement, and manage content for UW Global’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook) • Develop metrics to assess impact; evaluate and improve UW Global social media outreach • Design outreach materials for events, publicize events via listservs, manage event registrations and sending reminders and follow up messages to event attendees • Manage general updates to OGA’s websites. • Support the Vice Provost for Global Affairs and the Associate Vice Provost for Global Affairs with drafting international correspondence with new or existing internal and external partners • Research and create appropriate briefing information for leadership travel • Executive Communications- Partner with OGA and Executive Office (UW President and Provost) colleagues to craft international correspondence as well as other written communications, briefings, and talking points

15% PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

• Research and create briefing materials; steward relationships • Serve as backup for the duties of OGA’s Program Operations Specialist when they are unavailable which may include scheduling and managing communications for the Vice Provost for Global Affairs and the Associate Vice Provost for Global Affairs, office management, and management of the Global Innovation Fund.

10% Other duties as assigned

• General office and administrative support as well as support for other strategy team projects and team-wide events • Lead for International Agreements • Lead for UW Global Social Media

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2-3 years work experience in communication, social media experience or a related field

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Experience with executive communication • Experience customizing content for various target audiences (e.g. faculty, staff, students, alumni) • Partnering with professional colleagues to plan and execute programming and events • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, ability to interact professionally with high-level staff and visitors in person, via email, and over the phone • Experience creating content and monitoring and responding to user engagement for social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Program or project management (1+ years) in a higher education setting; experience designing and implementing new initiatives • Experience with WordPress, Marketo and/or Cvent • Experience with Canva and Adobe Tools • Experience with MS Office Tools and Google Suite • Experience with Zoom for Business • International experience and/or demonstrated cultural competence

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position is located within the Office of Global Affairs, a small team of 20 plus staff that serve as the key point of contact for all international education initiatives at the UW. This role oversees a range of international projects and strategic initiatives, requiring enormous flexibility, and ability to work independently.
