The Financial Analyst works under the direction of the UWMC Assistant Accounting Manager and is accountable for supporting the monthly close and financial reporting processes for UWMC and Shared Services operating entities. The analyst works in conjunction with accounting, finance and operating departments to provide assurance transactions are properly monitored, recorded, analyzed and reconciled, with a focus on delivering timely and actionable information to stakeholders. The Financial Analyst must exhibit exceptional accounting, analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to function both independently and in a team environment.
This individual will play a key role supporting implementations, upgrades, testing and training for the upcoming UW Workday ERP go-live, as well as other systems expected to further streamline and standardize processes.
Primary Job Responsibilities • Month-end close responsibilities supporting the accurate and timely preparation of UWMC and/or shared services financial reporting. Includes reviews and analyses of actual to budgeted variances • Preparation of well supported transactions in the form of journal entries and journal vouchers • Timely reconciliation, research, and resolution of assigned balance sheet accounts • Record allocations and transfers of costs to other UW and UW Medicine entities; ensure inter-affiliate and funding transactions remain in balance • Monitor accounting activities with a focus on internal controls, process improvement, service enhancement and workflow efficiencies • Partner with program managers to analyze, evaluate, and communicate financial performance relative to budget and prior periods • Perform tasks related to real estate accounting such as analyzing tenants CAM/Tax recs and ensuring the correct allocation of rents are recorded in the correct budgets
Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field is required • Minimum of 4 years working in an accounting role, demonstrating familiarity with accounting process flow and functions; healthcare experience preferred • CPA preferred • Advanced skill level in using General Ledger applications and supporting software programs, including Excel, Word, Power point and Access • Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB Accounting Standards • Record of success in managing within a complex organization and with a strong collaborative working style. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
