Product Manager/Strategy 3-ProdDev

Preferred Qualifications

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned product manager and thought leader in the Developer LifeCycle (Repo to Build to Test to Deploy) space looking to define the MVP for Tools and Services needed for Developer LifeCycle. This role will require a deep understanding of developer technologies and the ability to think broadly on how a suite of products can mesh together to solve end customer needs that span product categories.

Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure team is a ground-up effort to build Infrastructure-as-a-Service that operates at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best in class compute, storage, networking, database, security and an ever expanding set of foundational cloud-based services. These are exciting times in our space - we are growing fast, still at an early stage and working on ambitious new initiatives.

As a Product Manager on the Developer LifeCycle team, you will own the developer tools and practices space to meet the needs of our cloud customers and developers that depend on these tools. The work is non-routine and complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. You will define product strategy, gather and analyze information to define product specifications and review design specifications, envision and communicate product strategy and functionality, initiate and foster relationships with other groups, review product documentation and collateral, and ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities. You will also assist in the development of short, medium and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. You will regularly interact across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. You will be a customer evangelist and work to win hearts and minds across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Expert in knowing customers, market and competition

  • Own product definition from vision, roadmap to detailed product requirements

  • Drive product strategy and direction that translates into high value customer features

  • Lead and influence product teams to invest and iterate on the right product features

  • Run effective beta programs and collect continuous customer feedback

  • Drive business decisions to accelerate product adoption

  • Partner with sales and marketing to deliver high quality product collateral and influence pricing, packaging and positioning

  • Launch new services/features by working closely with marketing and sales organizations to maximize product adoption

  • Present to customers and partners, blog, build proof of concepts on top of our products, create samples of how to use product features, resolve customer issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in defining and launching multiple products (V1.0 product a plus)

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams

  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results

  • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguous product decisions

  • Ability to write or propose solutions using OCI product technologies

  • Build value propositions, messaging and guidance for the field, partners, press and analysts

  • Knowledge of IaaS developer experience patterns, DevOps, cloud technologies, Oracle, virtualization, networking and storage experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer requirements and provide unique and innovative solutions to address them

  • Lead the developer experience road-map; a role which has a direct impact on our customer's engineering productivity

  • Design new product features and enhance existing features

  • Author design documents and develop user interfaces

  • Work closely with engineering to build new and enhanced features

  • Advocate for the user and discover needs and preferences of our customers

  • Create external facing documentation for new and enhanced features

  • Develop launch plans and create launch materials

  • Help solve complex, multi-disciplinary technical challenges with engineers by clarifying goals, trade-offs and risks

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field preferred. Experience as a developer and with developer technologies a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in product management working on a product improving developer efficiency

  • Experience with user interface design

  • Experience building road-maps, project/release plans with a strong understanding of dependency management

  • Strong experience driving the full product lifecycle, including defining and hitting success metrics, in a startup like atmosphere

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross functional projects and bring them to successful completion

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Experience with open source software and GitHub is a big plus

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Work as part of a team that acts as the central resource and driving force for the design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing of product(s) as they move from conception to distribution. Organize interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget.

As a member of the product development division, you will define product specifications and or strategy. Gather and analyze information to define product specifications and review design specifications. Communicate product strategy and functionality. Initiate and foster relationships with other groups. Review product documentation and collateral. Ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex, needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
