This role will be a part of the Cloud & Data Transformation Engineering organization who providing next-level cloud and data engineering services to unleash digital magic for The Walt Disney Company. Our mission is to use modern technologies, design patterns, culture, and organizational alignment, to enable teams to seamlessly ship content, products, and magical experiences better, faster, safer, and happier.

As a Product Engineer, this person will be responsible for defining the product line vision, establishing a consistent customer rhythm of business, and building a deep roadmap and backlogs that prioritizes the highest value for users. This role requires a servant leader mindset and someone who is both technically capable and highly adept at building strong partnerships that deliver critical organizational outcomes.

There are multiple roles for the organization that span both products we build as well as SaaS products we buy. All with the intention of delivery the best value for our customers. Our product portfolio spans hosting platforms, DevOps platforms, Data platforms and services, and foundational services that enable integrated experiences across all of our product lines.

The ideal candidate is both technically adept in SDLC and multi-cloud capabilities, as well exemplary leadership and communication abilities (both verbal and written); this role will partner closely with our customers in both business and technology roles as we meet and exceed their business objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs market and industry analysis of trends and conditions for products, platforms, and features for the relevant product line

  • Define the strategy and vision for the product line

  • Build a deep roadmap and backlog for the product line

  • Ensure a consistent customer rhythm of business is established that corals both customer sentiment feedback as well as customer data that enables prioritization requests and enhancements for the product line

  • Engages with customer and organizational leadership to deeply understand unarticulated needs, successes, and new opportunities; then conveys that information to the team in a manner that is traceable and actionable.

  • Leveraging data, strategic direction, and feedback loops, prioritize the highest value outcomes first

  • Leveraging an Agile framework, partner and collaborate with eh engineering team to ensure the right work is prioritized and delivered; communicate expectations to stakeholders, leaders, and customers

  • Participates in the team representing Disney on engineering community meetings

  • Performs analysis of feasibility, cost, and return on investment for product ideas

  • Manage the budget requirements for projects and prepare PAR’s for funding (as applicable)

  • For SaaS products we purchase or cloud offerings, align with finance to develop chargeback/allocation models for recovery of service offerings

  • Leads communities across the segments around best practices for your product line

  • Takes calculated risks

  • Excellent interpersonal, business development and communication skills are an absolute must with a demonstrated ability to work well with engineering, creative and marketing leaders, including the ability to thoughtfully present to senior executives.

  • Leverages techniques that increase collaboration, predictability, and transparency for the team and organization, while promoting a culture of experimentation and innovation

REQUIRED:

  • Experience setting strategic vision, resolving issues that impact design, product success, or address future concepts, products, or technologies

  • Disciplined approach to maintaining and enforcing engineering best practices

  • Ability to synthesize robust and cost-effective technical solutions against customer requirements providing buy versus build decision making

  • Exercises good judgment when faced with risk, blockers, or tradeoffs

  • Continually prioritizes, in collaboration with the delivery team, a deep backlog and roadmap

  • Consistent, compassionate and inspiring leader to the team

  • Positive can-do partnership attitude while working with teams, cross-functional teams and cross-functional business units

  • Must be detail oriented, self-organized, and capable of simultaneously tracking multiple issues of varying complexity

SKILLS :

  • 7 years experience in software engineering, product engineering, or systems engineering team

  • 4 years cloud experience

  • Certification in one or more cloud providers

  • Well versed and experienced in cloud technologies

  • Ability to work with large data sets for analysis and interpretation of business results

  • Experienced in SCRUM/Lean Agile frameworks

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills to executives and technical teams

  • Ability to resolve conflict

  • Takes calculated risks and makes sound decisions

  • Ability to influence segments

  • Prioritizes work for agile teams, making tradeoffs as necessary

  • Data driven and manages to deliverables

  • Strong communication and ability to work cross-functionally with other functions, such as designers, product managers, data scientists, engineers, and SRE, to deliver products

  • Excellent written and verbal communications, proven ability to develop and deliver presentations geared for Senior and Executive Management

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and proven experience managing teams in highly matrixed organizations

  • Proven experience managing software development lifecycle platforms and tools

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of advanced scripting and programing languages such as Python and Go

  • Proven ability to manage budgets

  • Experiencing managing multiple engineering projects across public and private cloud solutions.

  • Experience with cloud application development platforms, tools and utilities.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience

Field of Study Computer Science or related field

Certification in one or more cloud providers

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Master’s in Computer Science
