Amazon Product Design Engineer Internship – 2025 (US) in Seattle, Washington

Description

Amazon internships are full-time positions, and interns should expect to work Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week typically between 8am-5pm. Specific team norms around working hours will be communicated by your manager. Interns should not have conflicts such as classes or other employment during the Amazon work-day.

Applicants should have a minimum of one quarter/semester/trimester remaining in their studies after their internship concludes. Customer obsession is part of our company DNA. As a Product Design Engineer Intern, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will be part of a project team where you will work alongside Senior Product Design Engineers; supporting the design, debug, validation and optimization of the products. You will be involved in projects from concept through production, gaining exposure to the complete design lifecycle. You will also support engineering builds gaining experience with high volume manufacturing.

Key job responsibilities

As a product design engineer intern, you may:

• Design and build 3D models for testing, proof-of-concept, mock-ups, and functional appearance models.

• Find and interface with 3rd party suppliers and integrate their pieces into the whole system design.

• Support advanced R&D initiatives & prototyping efforts with team members of other disciplines.

• Participate in the cross-discipline design process for system design, combining your skills with HW and SW team members to arrive at integrated effective system designs.

• Work well with support resources to efficiently realize appropriate design portions.

• Identify emerging technologies to help define development opportunities.

• Research advanced materials and manufacturing processes.

• Anticipate and correct issues that may impact mass-production (DFx).

• Support positive team interactions to accomplish program objectives.

• Contribute to schedule & milestone commitments.

• Provide cross-functional program integration support.

In addition to working on an impactful project, you will have the opportunity to engage with Amazonians for both personal and professional development, expand your network, and participate in fun activities with other interns throughout the summer. No matter the location of your internship, we give you the tools to own your internship and learn in a real-world setting.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in 3D CAD

  • Are 18 years of age or older

  • Work 40 hours/week minimum and commit to 12 week internship maximum

  • Currently working towards a Bachelor’s, Master's, or Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other equivalent technical discipline, with an expected conferral date between October 2025 – December 2028.

  • Knowledge of material and manufacturing methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with CREO.

  • Experience with high volume/high finish CE Enclosure materials.

  • Experience integrating component modules (I/O, Displays, Batteries, etc.).

  • Exposure to Product level validation testing (Thermal, EMC/EMI, Shock, Cycle Testing, etc.)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $41.78/hr in our lowest geographic market up to $88.94/hr in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
