Title: Principal Project Manager - Rolling Stock Location: 1601 5th Avenue, Suite 800, Seattle, WA 98101 Duties:Perform Project Management and Engineering duties in planning, procurement, and design for rail rolling stock, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Plan, design, and oversee the development, assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance of trains (rolling stock), equipment, and mechanical services from concept to delivery. Carry out condition assessments on systems such as diesel traction power units, bogies/trucks, wheelsets, pneumatics, braking and coupling systems. Lead rolling stock engineering consulting teams and business development for relevant consulting services. Provide strategic consultant advice and plan to provide solutions for rail fleet expansion, upgrade, procurement, and new technologies, including Zero/Near Zero emission rail vehicle propulsion systems. Monitor the progress of projects and work with clients and stakeholders to resolve critical technical issues. Oversee the management of contract budgets. Provide rolling stock project management and technical expertise to external and internal clients. Maintain and build client relationships to grow the business. Provide strategic advice and oversight of vehicle procurement, and performance improvement projects. Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure rolling stock integration is addressed. Write technical reports, specifications, maintenance requirements, and relevant procurement documentation. Facilitate improvements in rolling stock and maintenance facility equipment while ensuring compatibility with the existing and future rolling stocks. Provide specialized technical expertise to clients on their feasibility studies, tenders, problem projects, and operations, and provide high-level technical service to internal and external clients. Mentor and develop graduate and junior level engineers in specialist rolling stock areas such as systems engineering and integration, mechanical design, simulation, modeling, analysis methods and fleet operations. Participate in projects and studies in collaboration with numerous cross-functional disciplines and be responsible for the cost effectiveness of these projects. 20% domestic travel required for client meetings, facility inspections, equipment tests and inspections at supplier sites, and on-site testing & commissioning of rail vehicles.Position reports into Seattle, WA office; however, telecommuting from a home office is allowed. Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Professional Engineering, or a directly related field plus twelve (12) years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer or other occupation/position/job title involving experience in rolling stock engineering. Experience may be gained concurrently and must include ten (10) years in each of the following: - Experienced with rail vehicle procurement, general engineering, and design reviews - Rolling Stock design review, including preliminary and intermediate review, through final design - On-board systems integration within the rail vehicle to ensure its compatibility with the infrastructure systems - Producing technical specifications and report writing - General knowledge of recognized rail and transit industry standards and best practice guidance related to rail vehicles. Experience may be gained concurrently and must include four (4) years in each of the following: - Managing contract budgets - Project management, including the management of technical projects both internally and on behalf of clients - Asset management, including the use of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems, and Federal Transit Administration practices or similar industry recognized State of Good Repair practices - Developing proposals to provide engineering services and
