Job summaryThe Alexa Trust & Safety team is looking for an entrepreneurial, analytical, and independent Principal policy leader with excellent judgment. The Principal Policy Product Manager will own and lead strategic initiatives across functional teams in Alexa including legal, finance, product, operational, and technical teams to build scalable controls that prevent brand-damaging and trust-busting sensitive content from being surfaced to customers. This role will build out a program that will enable policies to be translated into automated enforcement, optimizing for data collection, model training, and traceability. The program will set parameters for the Content Policy team to formulate policy in a way that optimizes for accurate, high-yield, automated implementation.The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual contributor with experience working independently on a distributed and matrixed team, with a history of success working on high-stakes, high-impact policy development. The role requires fast-paced research and writing, with a critical analysis of the scale and scope of policy options. An ideal candidate will have worked in areas with a high degree of ambiguity and complexity, will be comfortable driving highly visible policy decisions on tight timeframes.Key job responsibilities* Work closely with the Alexa teams to operationalize sensitive content policy through technical tools.* Oversee framework design and refinement of existing policies, partnering with compliance and business to support policy harmonization and building out the future-state policy governance framework.* Build a flexible, scalable global content policy framework with associated internal processes for sensitive and inappropriate content.* Critically analyze inputs from internal stakeholders, including international and legal & PR teams, as well as define long term global and localized policy stances, standards, and strategies.* Influence the policy formation process to take into account scalable enforcement strategies.* Interface with Engineering and business owners for project requirements and scope.About the teamThe Alexa Trust & Safety team is part of the larger Alexa Trust organization. We oversee policy development for Alexa, this includes privacy & data policy, policy for Alexa Skills, appropriate content policy and ethics.* Work closely with the Alexa teams to operationalize sensitive content policy through technical tools.* Oversee framework design and refinement of existing policies, partnering with compliance and business to support policy harmonization and building out the future-state policy governance framework.* Build a flexible, scalable global content policy framework with associated internal processes for sensitive and inappropriate content.* Critically analyze inputs from internal stakeholders, including international and legal & PR teams, as well as define long term global and localized policy stances, standards, and strategies.* Influence the policy formation process to take into account scalable enforcement strategies.* Interface with Engineering and business owners for project requirements and scope.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS* 10+ years of demonstrated success in product, content, trust & safety, privacy, public policy, or legal with an emphasis on the technology industry (either tech SME with policy experience or policy SME with tech experience).* Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product.* Experience utilizing ML technologies to automate services at scale.* Excellent writing skills; ability to write high-quality policies and procedures in a simple, clear and concise manner* Open to international travel (post-COVID) and have an appreciation and respect for the norms of cultures other than your own.* Experienc
