Amazon Principal Human Experience Researcher, People Experience and Technology Central Science in Seattle, Washington

Description

Our team is looking for a Principal Human Experience Researcher to help us deeply understand diversity across our +1 million employees and disrupt inequities to delight employees. This includes internal exploration and improvement how we work and our employee facing experiences, and develop a deep understanding of what inclusive research and design looks for diverse audiences at scale.

In this role you will own and define our User Research strategy and long-term research roadmap for understanding and advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for our employees around the world. You will leverage your deep research expertise and applied experience to propose and personally execute impactful research that influences our internal processes and end-to-end experience across Amazon. In this role you will collaborate with business lines across Amazon, product organizations and executive leadership to identify practices and contributing factors that may unintentionally perpetuate societal inequities for employees. You will utilize your extensive applied experience to design rigorous research focused on unravelling complex issues while challenging conscious and unconscious biases.

In addition, you will aid in defining and identifying evidence based best practices and interventions that foster programmatic success and equitable outcomes. Your research will inform and guide decisions as we create inclusive, equitable, and employee-focused experiences.

Key job responsibilities

  • Championing a human-centered, responsible, and participatory approach to ensure ethical and inclusive outcomes, including inclusive facilitation experiences, research interactions that feel reciprocal, and respectful & responsible research recruiting practices.

  • Lead strategic research projects, driving research findings into actionable insights and inclusive experiences through a co-creative, equitable, and socially responsible approach to design.

  • Define a human-centered, multidisciplinary approach in shaping meaningful ML and generative AI solutions create inclusive, equitable, and socially responsible experiences and products.

  • Define research strategy and lead research initiatives where the employee and business strategy has yet to be defined.

  • Dive deep into both qualitative and quantitative data in order to bring forward actionable insights that generate innovations and help partner teams make informed decisions.

  • Influence across business lines and organizations through fluid and effective communication with both senior executives and the team, striking a balance in tone and content to service multiple audiences.

About the team

The Central Science Team within Amazon’s People Experience and Technology org (PXTCS) uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, machine learning, and design to proactively identify mechanisms and process improvements which simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, well-being, and the value of work to Amazonians. We are an interdisciplinary team, which combines the talents of science, research, design and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably achieve this goal.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in user research, psychology, and/or ethnography with deep understanding of user research methods and best practices.

  • 10+ years of experience in the product development process (e.g. mixed-methods research, translation of research into insights, prototyping).

  • Ability to effectively communicate and include people of diverse cultures, first languages, abilities and socioeconomic background.

  • Strong observational and analytical skills, an impressive ability to collaborate, and a relentless determination to do what is right through the lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

  • Expert facilitator that is able to navigate sensitive topics/difficult issues in a complex and diverse environment.

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables.

  • A range of applied research experience with qualitative and quantitative methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters and/or PhD in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, or similar.

  • The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, keep organized, and multitask in an agile environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $163,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $269,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
