This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to Business Units with the focus on design, build and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations. This position reports to the Blue Origin Test & Flight Operations business unit and will support the Blue Ring Mission Element and Mission Capabilities teams. As a Ground & Space Operations Payload Communications Lead, you will collaborate with an accomplished team of Ground System, Software, Mission Systems and Flight Operations Engineers. Your role will encompass leading and executing the full development lifecycle of a capability that will enable Blue Origin's vision of advanced interspace communication and in-space networking capability. The role will define and implement the ground-based operations system capabilities to enable seamless networking between hosted payloads, in-space user terminals, and Earth. You will contribute significantly to the team's development of new tools for networking orchestration, APIs for automated interfaces to customer mission networks, and tools used to operate advanced communications payloads. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead the definition of the CONOPS, requirements, architecture definition and implementation for the ground segment of Blue Ring's space data networking capability Identify, define, and maintain the interfaces specifications between the ground segment and customer mission networks to ensure seamless integration Collaborate with the space segment team to define and implement the ground segment tools for managing multiple communication payloads hosted on deployed Blue Ring spacecraft Develop processes and procedures to validate the integrity and functionality of end-to-end data flows and communication interfaces Support the operations team in creating related operations products including tools, procedure, documentation, and training materials Participate in operations for the Blue Ring missions Minimum Qualifications: B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical field Minimum 10+ years of industry related experience Expertise defining, developing, and fielding production software Experience in RF or optical communication protocols for both space-to-ground and space-to-space data links Knowledgeable in terrestrial network communication protocols and their application Experience in spacecraft or payload operations Strong understanding of complex systems engineering principles and methodologies Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
