The Apple Services Engineering team is one of the most exciting examples of Apple’s long-held passion for combining art and technology. These are the people who power the App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. And they do it on a massive scale, meeting Apple’s high expectations with dedication to deliver a huge variety of entertainment in over 35 languages to more than 150 countries. These engineers build secure, end-to-end solutions. They develop the custom software used to process all the creative work, the tools that providers use to deliver that media, all the server-side systems, and the APIs for many Apple services. Thanks to Apple’s unique integration of hardware, software, and services, engineers here partner to get behind a single unified vision. That vision always includes a deep dedication to strengthening Apple’s privacy policy, one of our core values. Although services are a bigger part of Apple’s business than ever before, these teams remain small, nimble, and cross-functional, offering greater exposure to the array of opportunities here. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to grow and lead a new product team. This team will build a world class data processing platform that delivers huge productivity gains for data engineering and SRE, cutting edge compute optimizations partnering with our data science organization, and deliver distributed systems working across multiple clouds.

Key Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing engineering teams

  • Familiarity with building platforms for big data processing

  • Highly customer focused, delivering value and balancing design for platform needs

  • Strong collaboration skills, building a culture of healthy debate, clarity and convergence

  • Able to work with ambiguity and drive clarity from proposals to implementation

  • Track record of developing engineers and building strong capable teams

  • Adept in coding using Java/Scala or another high-level programming language

  • Experience across multiple components of a modern big data tech stack, i.e. Spark for processing large datasets, Airflow for workflow orchestration, Kubernetes for compute, React for web development or equivalents

  • Experience with cloud technologies, i.e. AWS, GCP or Azure

Description

We are building a new team to deliver an innovative service platform that powers data processing for hundreds of engineers. You will be optimizing for designs that support layering for future capabilities without introducing breaking changes. Reliability and quality are paramount as your services will power many thousands of critical datasets that need to be processed and delivered on time to power the business and our customers. Your software and services need to be high quality, available and meet high service level objectives.
