The HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER OUTPATIENT PHARMACY DEPARTMENT is looking for an outstanding PHARMACY TECHNICIAN 2 - DISCHARGE ORDER ENTRY TRIAGE/LIASION to join our Outpatient Pharmacy team! The Pharmacy Technician 2 will perform non-professional/technical tasks related to the management of discharge order entry, third-party billing and assist with CII Safe Prescriptions for patients served by the Outpatient Pharmacies. This position acts as a liaison among the nursing units, billing operations specialist and the pharmacy staff to ensure effective communication regarding discharge issues.

WORK SCHEDULE • 35 hours per week • Rotating/Variable Shift

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform initial review of discharge orders with the primary purpose of being able to proficiently process discharge prescription orders, adjudicate on-line billing claims, help on-line staff with billing issues at Order Entry. • In coordination with the pharmacist facilitate patient discharge orders with Continuity of Care Nurse (CCN), RN’s and Financial Counselors. • Monitor the initial review and filling queue and coordinate with pharmacist, lead or managers to address problems in workflow. • Perform CII Safe filling functions for discharge patient prescriptions. • Function as primary third party billing resource for Outpatient pharmacy staff. • Work with financial counselors, HRSA, social workers, financial advocates and patients to monitor and review patients in spend-down or pending DSHS status. • Troubleshoot and resolve billing rejections and subsequently rebill claims to appropriate carrier for all commercial, federal, and state insurance plans. Submit prior authorization requests, follow up on submitted prior authorization requests and submit claims with approvals as appropriate. • Contact payers for lost medication overrides, replacement and vacation override approvals. • Identify patients who may qualify for patient medication assistance programs or copay assistance. • Review and screen new patients at intake to determine if patient has adequate prescription coverage. Refer appropriate patients to financial counseling for coverage or financial assistance. • Educate pharmacy staff about initial review and CII safe policies and procedures as needed. • Alternate for ordering supplies and inventory through McKesson on weekends and as needed. • Perform the duties of a Pharmacy Technician I.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician 1 OR equivalent education/experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT: State of Washington Pharmacy Technician certification.
