Responsibilities

The Periop Equipment Technician ensures the safety, cost effectiveness, and appropriateness of surgical equipment. In addition, this job educates the nursing and medical staff on the proper usage of these items.

  1. Selects and sets up operating rooms with equipment (e.g., tables, biomedical equipment) appropriate for the scheduled procedures.

  2. Prioritizes requests for equipment and, when possible, stages items outside the operating room to expedite room turnovers.

  3. In consultation with Perioperative Services leadership, orders new capital and non-capital equipment through Materials Management.

  4. Educates users on the operation of new equipment.

  5. Troubleshoots with users on solving problems with equipment. As necessary, consults with, or escalates issues to, Clinical Engineering staff; Engineering (e.g., tables, lights); Periop. Leadership.

  6. Responds to ad hoc requests, as necessary.

Qualifications

High school diploma, or GED required. Understanding of the principles, operation, and basic maintenance of surgical equipment required; basic knowledge of Biomedical Engineering required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required in providing education to equipment users. Strong interpersonal skills required in coordinating equipment requests among departments.

Entry-level Clinical Engineering knowledge preferred.
