HARBORVIEW - ED REGISTRATION has an outstanding opportunity for a PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST SUPERVISOR .

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 90% FTE, Nights

  • 12:00 AM to 8:30 AM

  • Tuesdays - Saturdays, 4 Hour Shift / Shift Varies POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Responsible for supervising Patient Services Specialists and/or other assigned staff in a fast-paced emergency department

  • Responsible for patient support functions such as arriving, registering, and coordinating all patient access services such as arranging and scheduling services of other hospital departments to facilitate delivery of aftercare to patients

  • Serves as patient advocate from entry into and flow through the emergency department; planning and conducting training of employees, preparing and maintaining policies and procedures, and explaining health insurance plans and billing systems PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises staff including interviewing and selecting new staff, reviewing and approving leave requests, conducting performance evaluations, determining and implementing corrective and disciplinary actions

  • Prepares daily and weekly schedules; maintains schedules in on-line appointment system

  • Coordinates resources, lead team meetings and huddles

  • Registers patients; collects and/or updates demographic and financial information; evaluates patient financial status to determine eligibility; assigns appropriate payer plans; obtains insurance claim forms and agency authorizations; explains health insurance plans and billing systems to patients; verifies eligibility and benefits for third-party payers for planned and emergency admissions

  • Analyze patient registration and access data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance service delivery. Prepare reports for management on staff performance, patient flow, and service efficiency

  • Implement and monitor quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with internal and external standards. Conduct regular audits of patient registrations and financial processes

  • Address and resolve any patient complaints or issues related to the registration process, ensuring a positive patient experience and effective communication

  • Provide coverage for Patient Services Specialists during staff callouts or absences to ensure uninterrupted service and maintain operational efficiency in the emergency department

  • Oversee and implement point-of-service collections to ensure accurate and timely collection of patient payments, enhancing revenue cycle efficiency and improving patient financial experiences

  • Processes, reconciles and ensures accuracy of patient registrationsinvestigates and corrects incomplete and inaccurate registrations

  • Ensures regulatory requirement compliance and accuracy such as obtaining consents and agreements, providing notices and financial assistance information

  • Ensures or obtains authorization; completes required documentation

  • Provides specific information to Financial Services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physician

  • Arrives patients and triages telephone calls to medical staff; obtains necessary information for the return call; initiates emergency procedure when necessary

  • Acts as primary liaison among the hospital, the patient and family, referring and treating physician, outside agencies, staff from other hospitals and the general public by providing information and advice regarding hospital services REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree in a medically related or public relations field AND Four years of experience as a Patient Services Specialist
