Husky Health Center (HHC) at the University of Washington, has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Patient Services Specialist 2 (PSS) (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv).

Under general supervision the PSS performs specialized clerical and technical duties to facilitate the delivery of patient care.

Husky Health Center, located on the UW Seattle Campus, is an AAAHC-accredited outpatient facility that provides a broad range of healthcare services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Register patients; obtain and verify demographic, and financial information through interviews with patients, family members, friends or other health care providers; enter this information on-line to the Husky Health Primary Care Center EPIC system.

  • Schedule new and returning patients: perform preliminary patient screening to establish patient appointment needs.

  • Assign primary care provider to new and returning patients.

  • Monitor E-care messaging system, and act upon patients requests

  • Verify patient eligibility, registration information and insurance status utilizing EEV, One Health Port, Availity, and other online insurance portals. Update information when appropriate.

  • Check student status in Keynes (student database); enter patient information in EPIC

  • Collects co-pays and other patient liabilities (post payments, reconcile receipts, Inform patients of any unpaid balances, etc) .

  • Obtain necessary signatures of consent for treatment, telephone consents, special consents and other documents, financial agreement, assignment of benefits and release of information.

  • Respond to general insurance/billing

  • Answer a multi-line phone system, direct calls and take accurate messages.

  • Maintain knowledge of clinic policies and procedures and attend required in-services.

  • Provide other clerical assistance to the office and HHC as requested within job scope.

  • Scan insurance information into patient records.

  • Monitor E-care activity and schedule per patient request/needs.

  • Utilize Accureg to make corrections to patient accounts.

  • Verify referrals are current and in effect prior to scheduling appointments with specialist. Assign referral to scheduled appointment.

  • Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with patients while on phone or in person.

  • Perform other clerical and PSS related duties as required MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work accurately and attend to details in a fast paced environment

  • Demonstrates behaviors that support the UW Medicine Patients Are First Service Culture Guidelines

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, and customer service skills

  • Experience with multi-line telephone systems. PC or PC-compatible computer experience using a variety of software programs.

  • Experience in handling multiple demands with professionalism

  • Experience working with a diverse staff and patient population. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a high volume of work with attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Experience with EPIC software (electronic appointment and registration system).
