The HMC 6EH Orthopedics Unit has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary/Hourly, PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 1-TRAINEE OR PSS 2. Under general supervision of the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse, the Patient Service Specialist 1-Trainee or PSS 2 has responsibility for patient reception, performing billing and clerical functions, and scheduling patient appointments for HMC'S 6EH Orthopedics Unit. The Patient Services Specialist 1-Trainee or PSS 2 is responsible for supporting patient care and providing clerical, environmental and customer service support for the patient care unit. As a central member of the inpatient care team, the PSS provides patient-focused care through the use of customer service strategies, including: communicating effectively with medical staff, patients, visitors, and other medical center departments to facilitate patient care, and coordinating unit activities by acting as the communications center for the nursing unit. The PSS exercises independence in the planning and accomplishment of a wide spectrum of clerical duties, including: • Handle all unit paperwork (i.e., including chart maintenance and patient information, etc.) • Triage telephone calls on multi-line phones • Document phone calls • Schedule and confirm appointments for the clinic • Access and enter information in computer programs, including Epic • Send out patient letters • Check, schedule, monitor and maintain scheduling queues for appointments. • Verify insurance for scheduled appointment • Sort incoming faxed documents and mail • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment • Partner in the orientation and training of professional and support staff, nursing and medical students, and PSS staff • Other duties as assigned Competitive candidates will have demonstrated clerical experience and previous experience working with patients. Requirements: Patient Services Specialists are hired as either PSS 1-Trainee or PSS 2, depending on experience and qualifications. The requirements are: • PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALISTS 1-TRAINEE REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience. • PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALISTS 2 REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience.
