UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST (full-time, 40 hours a week, day shift). A PSS is the first point of contact for new and returning patient inbound and outbound calls within the UWMC NW Sport Medicine Clinic. You will answer patient questions, direct patients, respond to scheduling and messaging needs, and provide a consistent customer experience that represents the UW Medicine brand. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides superior customer service to patients, families, general public, and co-workers by consistently demonstrating UW Medicine Service Standards

  • Responds to patients’ needs and concerns as appropriate. Investigates complaints and works with office Lead, Supervisor or Manager to find solutions

  • Schedules new and return appointments in our electronic systems following scheduling guidelines.

  • Coordinates and assists in scheduling ancillary appointments and consults

  • Using clinic guidelines, gathers information on the telephone re: the nature of the patient concern.

  • Triages calls to appropriate staff; obtains necessary information for the return call; initiates emergency procedure when necessary, uses appropriate documentation tools.

  • Takes accurate and complete messages for clinic providers, staff and management.

  • Provides complete registration and scheduling services per registration standards and clinic protocol.

  • Is a knowledgeable resource to patients/customers, striving to build patient/customer loyalty and confidence.

  • Coordinates with Interpreter Services as indicated.

    REQUIREMENTS Patient Services Specialists are hired as either PSS 1-Trainee or PSS 2, depending on experience and qualifications. PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALISTS 1-TRAINEE REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR two years of general office experience OR equivalent education/experience. PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALISTS 2 REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting OR three years of general office or customer services experience OR equivalent education/experience. DESIRED

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology

  • Experience in a health care setting

  • Familiarity with electronic medical records

  • Able to work in a high volume, fast paced work environment and perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
